Diesel Whiskey Row, made by AJ Fernandez in Nicaragua, is the latest brand that uses barrel aging to enhance the cigar’s profile. The Diesel Whiskey Row’s Mexican San Andrés binder leaves are aged in wooden barrels that previously contained Rabbit Hole bourbon. The Diesel Whiskey Row’s filler uses Nicaraguan tobacco that has been aged five to eight years. The cigar’s Ecuadorian habano wrapper has undergone a five-year aging process too. Contrary to what one might expect, barrel aging does not give the cigar an overpowering bourbon flavor. In fact, the Diesel Whiskey Row is a medium-strength cigar with strong notes of oak and leather. If you have ever wanted to experience a bourbon barrel-aged cigar, the Diesel Whiskey Row is great place to start.

This leaf is rich and flavorful thanks to the temperate climate of Ecuador and the quality of its volcanic soil.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
The San Andres region in Mexico is known for producing some of the best tobacco in the world. The tobacco is stalk cut and valued for its rich dark color and used to make noteworthy maduro wrappers and binders.

Read a few not so friendly reviews to which I say each their own. I love the whiskey row. Great draw n burn n taste excellent construction and attractively packaged. Not surprised to discover it's an AJ Fernandez offering. Not as big a fan of full blown diesels and their heaviness but these whiskeys are more restrained n refined. Cant wait to try a sherry cask. One of my favorite firepit cigars.

For an $8 stick it's OK. Didn't really perceive much of the whiskey/bourbon character. Relatively smooth and consistent flavor profile, but to me missing the refinement of slightly more expensive sticks like even the Rocky Patel ALR or Jericho Hill Willy Lee. Worth trying to see if it's your jam, but likely not a rebuy for me.

I was pleasantly surprised with this cigar. The draw was great and it burned very slow. The taste starts out mild and creamy like a good Dominican but after the first third the flavor really picks up. I have smoke several tobaccos aged in bourbon/whiskey barrels but this one you can really taste the bourbon in the second half. It was good enough I bought a box immediately.

So... Wanting to try something different, perhaps broaden my experience a bit, I read up on the Diesel Whisky, and bought a few. Nothing to shout about. A decent smoke, but nothing that made me say "Wow". "Do I like these." Here's my take on this one. It's okay, a bit overpriced for my tastes, and there's the rub. Each of us will find something different in each cigar we try. I can't buy into all that jazz about notes of this and that... Bunk! That kind of B.S. makes me want to burn 2x4's and inhale the smoke they create. I want a cigar, okay, that kind of talk comes from the same fools that talked that way about wine. Give it a rest. Oh, and as for the Diesel Whiskey, next time I'll try some other cigar.

The Diesel Whiskey Row is a nice cigar with some of the tobaccos aged in bourbon barrels. The barrels are from the Rabbit Hole Distillery. Aging the tobaccos in these empty barrels allows the cigar to pick up slight hints of the flavors from the whiskey that once found home to these barrels. In appearance, the cigar is smooth and the bands cover up a lot of the cigar, highlighting the bourbon barrel aging process. Smoking the cigar was a treat. The smoke was very smooth and flavorful. Throughout the whole cigar there was a hint of pepper in the back of the throat which contrasted with its subtle sweetness and whiskey notes. Some notes of leather and oak came about with the retro-hale, also giving a wonderful burning pepper sensation. Cigar is medium to full in strength and is constructed quite well. I did not have to relight the cigar nor did I have to fix its burn. For a cigar under $8, it's everything you expect and more.

A very smooth and subtle smoke that I bought because Cigar Aficionado sent an e-mail alert saying this is one to get! Glad I did. Received 91 points by the way. Here's some product information: General Cigar has enlisted the expertise of Nicaraguan cigarmaker A.J. Fernandez to create Diesel Whiskey Row, a cigar that General says is made with some Bourbon barrel-aged tobaccos. The cigar is rolled with an Ecuadoran Habano cover leaf, a Mexican San Andrés binder and Nicaraguan filler. In October’s Cigar Aficionado, the Churchill impressed our panel with notes of chocolate, wood and a finish hinting of brown sugar.
