The Highclere Castle Victorian is a medium strength cigar that is handmade in Nicaragua. It sports an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper that covers a Brazilian mata fina binder and a Nicaraguan filler. The Highclere Castle Victorian offers up notes of coffee, cedar, and spice.

Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuadorian Habano wrapper has become one of the most used cigar wrappers in the market. Grown primarily by the Oliva family, this tobacco originated from Habano or H2000 seeds brought to Ecuador from Cuba. This leaf is rich and flavorful thanks to the temperate climate of Ecuador and the quality of its volcanic soil.

Brazil Mata Fina
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Brazil grows tobacco from North to South. The East Central State of Bahia is an important cigar tobacco producer. The growing area is about 100 miles west of the state capital, Salvador da Bahia, an active port on the Atlantic Coast. Mata Fina is considered Brazil's finest leaf and is grown in the Bahia region.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

Foundation cigars are for me a discovery. I tried them thanks to this pack. All cigars where great. I am not fond of full bodied strong cigars but the Gueguense Toro Huaco was super duper. The Charter Oak, the least expensive of the pack happens to be in my opinion the best cigar in this price range so I now got a whole box of them. The cigar cutter is a top quality cutter.

Cashed my smoke rings in on this for an Xmas present and it was excellent all around. I love the wise men the most but all were good stuff. The charter oak had a bit of a firm draw otherwise perfect marks. I like the cutter and pamphlet too.

My first Foundation cigars did not disappoint. This is how a sampler should be put together. Including a product guide should be a standard, and I hope more brands will do the same. The cutter, too, is beautiful and heavy duty. I haven’t used it because I don’t want to tarnish it, but trust me it’s sharp haha

Foundation has quite a few bangers and this is no exception. Starts out with notes of coffee, wood and some spice. Very good construction on this one with a perfect draw and fairly even burn on a windy day. I will be trying the other sizes of this because it might be box worthy for me.

Chose this cigar because of the top 25 ranking for the year. It has a complex flavor and taste but a tight draw. I had to work a bit at getting a consistent burn because of the restricted draw on the stick. I enjoyed the flavor and taste but would likely pass on a second purchase because of the draw.

Wonderful cigar, could be truly great if it had a better draw. I've smoked at least 5 and they all had very bad draw issues, as well as all requiring touchups throughout the smoke. Great flavor makes up for it but to me it doesn't matter how good a cigar tastes if you have to fight with very bad draw issues.

Excellent performing cigar. Draw firm yet full and the most perfect burn I've ever had with any cigar. For me it tasted of cedar with peppery undertones. A nice medium smoke and another hit from AJ. A bit pricey perhaps but I'd definitely smoke this one again, maybe with a cup of tea Downton Abbey style...

Very good cigar, with noted of chocolate, warm spice and a bit of cedar. The draw and burn weren't perfect, but no major problems in terms of construction. I recommend both Highclere Case cigar lines for a quality smoke at a reasonable price.

If you are familiar with the TV series Downtown Abbey, then you already know the history of the Highclere Castle cigar. Foundation Cigars -- Nick Melillo -- grouped together with the 8th Earl Carnarvon and the family's own historic Highclere castle. He wanted to create a smoking experience like those enjoyed years ago at the castle! This unique cigar hosts an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Brazilian binder, and Nicaraguan corojo and criollo fillers. Upon first light, the cigar has both sweet and salty notes along with some light spice. Dark chocolate and earthy notes are also joining the group. Moving into the second third, one can only notice the smoothness and sweetness of this cigar. It is perfectly balanced with salty nuttiness, and some light pepper which keeps the complexity of this experience very high. Chocolate notes are still upfront along with cedar -- very savory!! Into the final third, more sweetness arrives and carries out to the very end. The cigar stays at a nice medium strength which allows all smokers to enjoy!! The construction was perfect from start to finish -- draw was spot on -- ash was long and strong -- no relights needed. The cigar was rich, complex and totally worth the money. Flavorful from beginning to end. Enjoy!!

I had to finally try this cgar. I have liked other offerings by Nick Melillo. This was a good stick however, at 11 plus dollars for a 30 minute stick it is too pricey. Plenty of great Petite Coronas or Rothschild(s) out there just as good for much less.
