The Dorado is the fifth release of the ever-popular New World brand, which was started by AJ Fernandez and his father Isamel. The cigar’s named refers to AJ’s Dorado farm in Esteli, Nicaragua. When AJ first started to work the land, he noticed it had a dorado (or golden hue) to it. The New World Dorado is a Nicaraguan puro that uses tobacco grown from this farm for its wrapper, binder and parts of its filler. The cigars are handmade in Nicaragua and offer a medium bodied smoking experience that will delight fans of this iconic brand.

Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Nicaraguan cigar wrappers are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Wrappers grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro wrappers are all produced in Nicaragua.

Criollo
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Costa Rica Habano tobacco is a Cuban-seed tobacco that is grown in Costa Rica, and it is fermented using traditional Cuban methods. The tobacco is highly regarded for its Cubanesque flavor and aroma.

Its like opening a treasure chest, the box is impecable and cold be used as a humidor with a cedar separator between cigars. Perfect construction, no soft spots, light sweetness with humifeours earth in the retrohale. Well aged tobaco, no harshness, just a masterpiece. I won't even talk much about the presentation of this box, except to say that one look at these and you instantly want to light them up. Do not resist the urge, you'll be passing on a nice treat. The name refers to AJ Fernandez' Dorado farm in Esteli, Nicaragua where most of the tobaccos come from. This is a bold, full bodied cigar for those in the mood for an earthy and spicy smoke. Notes of pepper, cocoa, and cedar are abundant throughout. I like that the format is box-pressed, I feel it makes the draw near perfect. The experience is very aromatic, full flavored, with some sweetness, but mostly what stands out is the spice which is present from start to finish. I would recommend pairing this cigar with a nice cup of coffee or a Port wine.

Howdy! Lately, I see a lot of collaborations with AJ Fernandez. So, I figured I'd go for the gold and grab AJ's newest blend, the New World Dorado. Beautifully designed with the aged paper look with gold really makes this robusto I grabbed feel like a something aged since the 1870's. Taking it out of the cellophane it was a dense cigar with an aged tobacco and leather smell. I cut the tip, lit the foot. My first puff was very smokey and I got a pleasant flavor of caramel and coffee. The draw was very open which made me slow my puffs and take my time, just like people did in the old west. I smoked the first third and enjoying flavors as they flipped to a green tea and ginger. Retrohale was peppery and had a lot of bite on the sensors, which I think contributed to the ginger notes. So far, I am enjoying the slowdown of this cigar. A little past the half, it mellows out a bit but that retrohale still shows you who is boss as if you were near a campfire and accidentally got some of the smoke up your nose. No flavor had changed as I sat the butt of the cigar in my ashtray, and I felt like I could have been sitting hillside while my horse rested from a long day's travel. The New World Dorado was a great smoke and definitely had me thinking of the olden days. I'd say, grab you one, light it up with your favorite beverage and ask yourself - Do I feel lucky? Well... do Ya?

A very pleasant smoke and excellent performer. Open draw and consistent burn with a pleasant aroma and notes of bread, baking spices, and creamy coffee. Medium down the line for me. I generally prefer a smoke with more kick but I really enjoyed this one nevertheless.
