The Nica Rustica Adobe is the second release of the sought-after Nica Rustica brand, which was developed by Drew Estate as a value-priced cigar that highlights tobacco from Esteli and Jalapa. Two of Nicaragua’s top-tobacco producing regions. The cigar is composed of a rustic Nicaraguan Habano wrapper covering a Brazilian binder and filler leaves from Esteli and Jalapa. Its full-strength and flavor profile will appeal to the tobacco lover. The Adobe was released during Drew Estate’s Freestyle Live Event Pack in 2022. It is also an homage to the city of Esteli, which is where the La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate factory is located. The design for the boxes captures the heart and soul of Esteli. It was created by local artist Richard “Dog” Diaz of Subculture Studios.

Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Natural wrapper, also known as Colorado Claro, is light brown in color.

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Habano wrapper leaf is Cuban-seed tobacco that is grown and cultivated in the traditional Cuban way.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Brazil grows tobacco from North to South. The East Central State of Bahia is an important cigar tobacco producer. The growing area is about 100 miles west of the state capital, Salvador da Bahia, an active port on the Atlantic Coast. The Northern State of Alagoas hosts a production around the city of Arapiraca where maduro wrappers are grown. The Southern states of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina produce tobacco for cigarettes and pipe.

For a bargain stick I enjoy the addition of the footband. Wrapper leaf is a little veiny. Vcut. Draw is surprisingly open. Flavor profile is a blend of cedar, apple cider, and bran. There's a surprising dash of sweetness on the finish. Retrohale really let's the sweetness shine. Burn needed some touchups half an inch in. Second third, there was a tunnel and despite the open draw the smoke volume was weak. Flavor profile was a blend of sweet grains and leather. Final third it started to get it's act together. Smoke output increased, burn started to even. Natural sweetness is apparent. Tastes like a bran muffin. Wasn't sure what to expect but I expected more being a drew estate stick. Very one dimensional, and a little too finicky for my liking. Would revisit to see if the burn issues are a fluke, if so it could be a decent beginner stick.
