The Rocky Patel Number 6 is a medium strength cigar that is hand rolled in Honduras. It sports an oily Honduran Corojo maduro wrapper draped over a Honduran binder and a filler composed of Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos. The Rocky Patel Number 6 offers up notes of coffee, earth, and vanilla. It is considered the sweetest cigar that has ever been released by Rocky Patel.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Honduras, a Central American country which shares a border with Nicaragua, is widely known in the premium cigar industry as the ideal place to grow Cuban and Connecticut seed tobaccos. Danli and the Jamastran Valley is considered the heart of Honduras’ cigar industry. The Jamastran Valley is known for producing a full-bodied tobacco that draws strong comparisons to the tobacco grown in the Pinar del Rio region of Cuba. This same region is also known for its Connecticut shade grown and Corojo shade grown tobacco. In addition, Honduras produces Cuban-seed sun grown filler tobaccos of the highest quality.

Honduran cigar wrapper has the reputation of great quality, with wrapper leaf being grown in the Jamastran, Talanga and San Agustin valleys. Some of the wrappers being grown in Honduras include Corojo, Honduran Claro, Honduran Criollo, Honduran Jamastran Viso Rosado, Honduran San Agustin Havana Seed and San Agustin Ligero.

Corojo wrapper was first developed in Cuba in the 1930s and quickly became popular as the wrapper on some of the best cigars. By the end of the 90s, Cuba stopped growing Corojo wrapper because of its susceptibility to pests and diseases. Ironically, Corojo wrapper has since become more popular outside of Cuba, as it has been replicated in tobacco farms in Nicaragua, Honduras, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic.

Now I'm not the biggest corona fan as I prefer my cigars in the 50's gauge wise but this was one excellent smoke. Full draw and excellent burn after one initial touch up. First light gave me a peppery kick but soon mellowed a bit to bring that slight sweetness as advertised with the trademark RP earthiness. Stayed peppery throughout. I liked this one a lot. Thumbs up.

Not much to input on this one. Nothing stood out, basically an average smoke that costs more than the offering. I did not pick up the flavors and sweetness that were advertised. Burn stopped several times with less than 5 minute lag between draws. Perhaps the next one will perform better.

RP makes some great cigars.. this did not make the cut! I touched this well humidified cigar three times... while lighting in dead stillness the outer wrapper began to crack in three places and disintegrate. The light glow of fire quickly turned into a burning race up one side of the stick, odd! I did get a couple of draws but it was completely unremarkable! I know Cigar. AF rated this high... but I don’t. Fragile, weak, fractious and self destructive. Soooo. I tried it!

When I see a corona size cigar get good reviews I always try it. Just saw that it was in Cigar Aficionado’s top 10. Not sure about that, decent cigar but not as good as the hype. It’s well made so I’d suggest trying it, it might be your flavor profile, just not mine.

It is hard to quantify a ‘sampler pack’ with a single review, so my above scores reflect what I feel is an average. This sampler pack came packaged beautifully, with a Boveda pack sealed inside. However, the Boveda pack was rock solid, meaning it had been dried out for quite some time. I think the protective tubes did their job quite effectively though, because the cigars were still in relatively good shape. Overall, I would recommend these to a friend just for the sheer novelty aspect of them. Plus, cigars that come in their own tubing travel well, and what’s to stop someone from reusing those tubes?
