Southern Draw is a premium cigar brand founded by Robert and Sharon Holt. The cigars are handmade at AJ Fernandez’s Tabacalera Fernandez factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. Jacobs Ladder by Southern Draw is named after three: a story in the Bible, a flowering plant, and after Ethan Jacob Holt the son of two of Southern Draw’s founders. Made in Nicaragua by AJ Fernandez, the Southern Draw Jacobs Ladder cigar is composed of a dark USA Pennsylvania Broadleaf maduro wrapper that is wound around an Ecuadorian maduro binder, which contains filler tobaccos from Nicaragua. Southern Draw Jacobs Ladder is a full-bodied, medium-strength premium cigar that is full of flavor and sure to captivate cigar lovers of all stripes.

The Southern Draw Manzanita cigar’s oily, red-hued Habano wrapper reminded Southern Draw’s founder so much of the red bark from the manzanita tree of his youth that he named the cigar after the tree. The name is also linked to Native Americans who used leaves from the manzanita tree as a substitute for tobacco. The cigar is composed of a Habano binder and a filler made of Pelo d’Oro, Corojo 99 and Ligero leaves from an undisclosed origin. This intriguing blend is covered by the aforementioned wrapper. The cigars are handmade in Nicaragua at AJ Fernandez’s famed Tabacalera Fernandez factory. According to Southern Draw, portions of the proceeds from the sales of the Manzanita cigar will go to First Nations Development Institute. Manzanita is Spanish for “little apples.”

The first half was great. Mild, sweet, wood, tea and floral notes. Surprisingly spicy but it got better a while later. Very pleasant, almost as good as the Brulee Blue! Draw was a bit tight, but construction was good considering the vitola. I didn't like the last third of the cigar though, bitter and harsh flavors, with the cigar getting hot too.

This is a very well constructed cigar. The Connecticut Shade wrapper is silky smooth in appearance. It has a very unique flavor profile. This is one of the best cigars with a true Connecticut Shade wrapper (I personally like Ecuadorian CT Shade better). The overall profile is nutty, bready, and creamy with a light honey sweetness. It has a flavor that reminds me of a bowl of cereal. I highly recommend if you are a fan of light to medium cigars.

my first lancero! Greeted by elegant dual pink, gold and black bands with sleek gold embossed lettering and adorning filigree accents. I personally appreciated the "Soli Deo Gloria" acknowledgement. The wrapper was akin to suede in texture and hue. Delightfully uniform with non-existent seams and minimal veining, bound by a pigtail cap. Five stars! straight cut. the closed foot made light-up a breeze and left me taken back by the effortless draw. it was...dare I say: too easy. the experience was similar to sipping smoke through a boba straw (thankfully no bubbles). This remained throughout without any hindrance: a fun five stars! The burnline lazily swayed along and self-corrected it's minimal meandering. the ash yielded loose pillow stacks that leaped off on their own accord. deciding how to rate, left me debating if I should break the notes into the typical thirds or to go with sixteenths considering the length of this thing! settled on simply enjoying as a unified journey. the flavor profile showcased dollops of velvety cream with floral potpourri nuances reminiscent of rose; leaving me wondering if that was due to it's namesake. Cutting the sweetness was a zesty red pepper spice, and a bed of clay/earth rounding it out. the retrohale left me smelling coffee grounds and tasting clove. at the halfway point I had an odd silicone/rubber note as if I had a mouth guard in; thankfully THAT was fleeting! further along another peculiarity just south of the second band it.... abruptly...died? an intermission perhaps? confusingly I was consistently puffing until this point and suddenly it stopped burning altogether: full point deduction. Investigating the innards on relight it appears the binder tunneled past both wrapper and filler slightly. a full relight gave way to copious creamy plumes and we're back in business! overall this was fun and one i could easily see picking up again as well as recommending. you'll get density without a wallo

On my recent search for a wonderful Mild Cigar, I came across this beauty. The Southern Draw Rose of Sharon Toro, sporting an elegant gold and pink band. This cigar is hand-rolled at the AJ Fernandez Factory in Nicaragua and named after brand Co-owner Sharon Holt. The cigar has Dominican Piloto Cubano Ligero in the filler, a Nicaraguan binder, and an Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper. At first light, it absolutely blew me off my feet with how creamy it was from start to finish. Notes of cream, hay, nuts, vanilla and small amounts of pepper, but more than I am accustomed to in a Connecticut shade. The second third saw a small transition to a more woodsy/earthy note, but the final third saw that vanilla and cream come back, which was just superb. Draw was excellent and burn was nice. Aroma and taste were fantastic. This cigar wasn't just great, it is now going to be one that I always keep in my humidor at all times. This is my new favorite mild cigar and probably a cigar that I recommend to all new aficionados and experienced ones who still like a mild cigar with a morning coffee.

ok, first off I would like to thank Tim from Cigars Daily on youtube (if you don't know who that is check him out, he has excellent cigar information and tip) for giving this cigar as a recommendation. I'm not super good at describing flavor notes into coffee, chocolate, peppery, and things of that nature but what I DO know is that this a wonderful cigar. This is the first cigar I've tried from the Southern Draw brand and I'm hooked! The draw was just right not too loose or too tight. The construction was beautiful aside from so burn issues, I had to touch it up just once but then it corrected itself. The flavor was unique. It was a balance between a savory taste and nice spice but not overwhelming at all. the finish leaves a nice "nutty" taste but is very clean. I smoked this thing all the way down to a nub nearly burning my fingers off! Definitely will be buying if not a few boxes. enjoy!

The Cedrus is a well constructed box pressed cigar with a solid chocolate brown wrapper. Herbal flavors and aromas abound along with pronounced cedar and a red pepper spice that leaves a lingering burn on the tounge. I also picked up notes of bread, leather and creamy toffee character. The Cedrus is definitely a complex and flavorful cigar which is worth checking out if you’re looking for something different.

This was a tasty cigar, creamy throughout and a bit of cocoa at the final third. The actual cigar wrapper was in a terrible state though. Part missing at the foot, the cap was chipped then the cap split into bits during smoking. The band was also sub standard, poor quality and maybe some piece of old yellow price tag still stuck to it? Ash was creamy white at the start, then went dark grey into the final third. Smoke was plentiful, burn was uneven but not out of control. I would love to try this cigar again but the quality control measures before distribution need to be improved ?? I wanted to really enjoy this stick but the wrapper and cap just ruined the experience

Not quite like I thought this cigar would be. Excellent complex flavor. A little on the mild side, by the last third the southern draw improves. The only thing that lowers the rating with me, is that about half of the cigars have damaged or imperfect wapers. Maybe, just a bad box. Still very smokeable.

Really phenomenal lighter bodied cigar. Don’t let the appearance fool you though, this has less sweetness and way more complexity than you would expect. This is such a smooth and creamy cigar. Leather, cream, and earth are dominant, the pepper is but a hint. This is definitely an after breakfast with a coffee smoke. My personal favorite time to have this is very early in the morning before the family wakes up. Strong hot coffee and a campfire at nautical twilight is my favorite pairing.

Nice simple smoke. Flavors are creamy, sweet, floral, and some earthy / mineral. Nothing too special with the flavors, but they are consistent. It started off perfect with the burn, but later started having some minor burn and construction issues near the end. Draw was on the looser side, but nonetheless a lot of smoke output! I was excited to gift this a shot. My other experiences with Southern Draw have been good. The FireThorn continues that experience. Initial draws are of pepper but eventually levels off into a nice blended stick. Burn is even and the draw is smooth.

These cigars are spicey and sweet. The ash holds straight and strong. The cigar tastes like sweet cocoa with notes of cedar. The palate is very satisfying and spicey. A modest sour note enters at the short end of the smoke. It does burn a little hot to the touch in final end. A medium strength cigar that holds it's own.muy bien!

So I say and thought it over and it's a more of a cinnamon-y without tasting like candy. It's different. I have 1 left and I am sitting on it till I can get another couple. this rose of Sharon might end up on my favorites list. first inch has hints of popcorn. a lovely mild spice with notes of cinnamon. first half with floral notes and a white sugary type sweetness mixed with something like cookie dough/cake batter coming in notes. starting second third a flavor of dark black coffee comes into the profile. first Connecticut wrapped cigar iv ever had with any taste of coffee ?? incredibly nuanced cigar that is very difficult to properly review. mild to medium bodied cigar but really hits the spot with the Connecticut wrapper Ecuadorian binder and Nicaraguan and Dominican ligero long fillers.

The smoking experience was sublime. I paired the cigar with a black coffee and bread pudding and it resulted in a play of tastes. The construction and burn was consistent and steady. A lovely effort by Southern Draw. The description of “sweet spice, leather and chocolate” is quite accurate. The draw was perfect, and the construction was solid--no cracking or unraveling. More than a few touch-ups were required, but otherwise, this is a very smooth and predictable smoke. Those who prefer Maduros might want to look into this one.

When I punched this stick, it cracked pretty badly--not a great start. And the draw was fairly difficult. (These things could have been one-offs.) It burned evenly, without any need for touch-ups. The aroma was subtle, yet sophisticated--definitely an attention getter. The taste, although certainly not unpleasant, wasn't to my liking, but I'm a straight-liquor, black-coffee, IPA kind of guy. I intend to order a couple more of these for friends who like a more mild smoke.

construction wise this is as good as cigar as they come. smoking it was effortless and enjoyable. medium complexity, a little peppery, wood flavor, definitely more interesting than your average Connecticut cigar. I gave it three star rating on taste is purely subjective. it has a strong earthy flavor which my palate confused with a mild harshness and bitterness. in hindsight, I just don't like too much earthy flavor but that should not take anything away for those who enjoy that profile. also I had not the same problem with the other sizes. for optics this cigar will make you look very cool ??

Very enjoyable cigar with great presentation. No valid concerns with the burn, did hit a stem in one that imbalanced the burn. Very unique flavor with a twinge of sweetness like blackberry or a Malbec grape. I hesitate to call this full flavored, maybe tempered close to full, but it bears a compelling unique flavor similar to Sancti Spiritus, could be some in the binder. I think this cigar is a notch below 90, will buy again. I am new with the Southern Draw label and have enjoyed everything I have tried so far. Well done!

Excellent cigar.. perfectly constructed, rolled, and pressed. I detect a cedar twinge, earth, a bit of slightly sweet damp hay. Combined, it produces a unique flavor similar to Sancti Spiritus tobacco. This cigar is not mundane, it packs a bold flavor, and it is remarkable at the 88-90 level.. I will buy more!

Beautiful constructed cigar with a dynamic presentation. Dry dray is bold and inviting. Lit up well and it required a couple minor corrections on the burn. Don’t judge this stick before you get close to an inch of ash. Flavor is bold and unique... just a bit less than full flavored but it is no cigar for neophytes.. it is a head-turner. I get cedar, earth, and a twinge of blackberry about halfway through this dark inviting beauty. Flow of smoke is bountiful and consistent with a V cut on the cap. No construction issues.. it is rolled perfectly. The fermentation of the wrapper is visually obvious as well as the collective taste.Lovely, tasty, and very well accomplished. This is an 88-90 cigar.. maybe Up to 91. If you like a bold and tasty stick that is well done.. buy this beauty... smoke it slowly and enjoy to avoid the minor lightheadedness. Very good cigar!

This was a decent stick, the appearance wasn't much to look at. The draw sucked, usually i will not waste my time on a cigar with a trash draw, I hit this stick with a perfect draw device and after that the draw was fixed. The burn was very good and so was the aroma. The taste was the best thing about this stick, after a while I got some leathery notes, which I do not like.

I really enjoyed the first two thirds of this cigar, with a delicious blend of pepper, chocolate and cedar. The flavors diminished a little in the final third, and while still enjoyable, I got a huge nicotine rush which overpowered everything else. Great draw, burn and construction. Overall I enjoyed it very much, I just need to be a little careful if I decide to go through with the final third.

LOTS of zing at first lingering for quite a bit of time. Easy draw with great smoke output. Even burn. Definitely a medium, may be the fuller side of medium. The initial zing has subsided going into the first third. There are notes of cedar and tobacco, maybe a slight citrus finish. Smooth creamy smoke, lots of body. In the second third the zing has returned slightly, but nothing like the first few draws. Smoke remains creamy with notes of cedar and leather. Into the final third flavours remain constant with a noticeable rich tobacco aroma coming off the foot and a return of some of the zing. Great smoke!

Shelly's review is spot on. This is a little espresso bullet of a stick, starts out smoother (dry baker's chocolate) and the spice amps up into the final third when it's the dominant note. Reminds me a lot of the T52 Belicoso from Liga Privada, at a lower price. Good chance I'll buy again.

Very well constructed smoke with a beautiful band on it. Draw is probably as perfect as a cigar can be. Not to heavy, not too light. Very even burn, minimal touch ups even though I smoked it outside. Aroma is very pleasant. Almost doesn’t even remind you of cigar smoke it is so aromatic. Taste is a very flavorful medium strength. Not harsh of strong, but certainly a lot of flavor. Very happy with this cigar, will absolutely buy again.

Jacobs Ladder was released as one of Southern Draw's fullest cigars in 2017. The cigar has a beautiful dark broadleaf wrapper from Pennsylvania, an Ecuadorian Maduro binder, and fillers from Nicaragua--awesomeness!! I also love the closed foot. Besides this being a delicious smoke from start to finish, the banding is is beautiful -- jumps right out. Upon first light, you are hit with the cigar's natural maduro sweetness along with some pepper notes. The sweetness actually lasts throughout the entire smoke. Into the second third, sweet and pepper notes are still prevailing along with cocoa, espresso and some cedar notes. Construction is perfect at this point -- draw and burn are spot on. Nice complexity as well -- moves into full body and full flavor. There is a nice amount of ligero used in this cigar! Into the final third, pepper picks up a bit more-- gaining in strength. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this unique smoking experience from beginning to end. This is one cigar I did not want to end. Definitely a must try in one's cigar portfolio. Enjoy.

Strong performance from a good-looking stick (armchair-leather brown with some veins on the wrapper, nice look). Lots of mellow chocolate (baker's, not sweet), woody-ness, earth. Very well balanced and medium bodied. A solid performance. Not sure I'd buy again vs. others in similar price range (e.g., Oliva Serie V Maduro, MiQuerida, etc.), but worth a try if you've not had it yet.

Fasten your seatbelt. This is a strong, bold and peppery cigar. excellent construction, cedar, leather and other dark flavors. Also very consistent from start to finish. Not too many transitions and plenty of smoke. Enjoyable with wisky, burbon or your favorite spirit. More bold than strong definitely not recommend for the first cigar of the day. enjoy!

Pre-light: Cocoa with some floral notes. 1/3: Lots of smoke pours out. Initial flavors were muddled but picked up cocoa, cedar and nuttiness. Sharp burn. 2/3: Ash drops about 35 minutes in. Tasting sweet tobacco and some wood. Bold flavors, but smooth. Not much complexity here. 2nd ash about a hour in. 3/3: Lumber and some floral notes. Burn was sharp throughout. Good construction on this stick but lacked in depth. Bold and simple stick. Not a bad cigar, but not one I am running out to buy again at $9+.

Pre-light draw: Cedar, wood, grass, peanut. 1/3: Red pepper, cedar, cream, nuttiness and hay with a hint of lemon zest. Smoke is pouring out of this toro. First ash drops a little over 20 minutes in. 2/3: Lots of nuttiness, pepper has disappeared, grass, hay and some cedar. Balanced and mild smoke. 2nd ash drop about 40 minutes in. 3/3: Some floral sweetness, nuts, wood. Flavors have remained pretty consistent. Only pepper was in the first initial inch. This stick has a razor sharp burn the entire way. A smooth, balanced and mild cigar that is definitely worth a try.

This was definitely a full body smoke right from the start. It took a good third for the cigar to settle down and become a little more smooth but I didn’t think the flavors were all that great. Not something that I would buy again.

Bought on staff recommendation. Very attractive cigar, easy light, and a clean draw. It's a bit hot on the first third, and a little too peppery for my personal taste (but if you like that, you'll enjoy this cigar--it's not overpowering). The middle third revealed some fruit and cedar, and the smoke is light and almost sandalwoody. My only complaint is that this burned very quickly--about 45 minutes. Otherwise, I'd definitely buy again. A really nice mid-morning light/medium smoke.

I had the pleasure of smoking one of these a few days ago and WOW. Don't let the Connecticut wrapper fool you, this cigar has some really complex flavors, a great burn and I would say totally worth the price. I usually enjoy the bolder cigars but this was a real winner.

I was really drawn to this cigar because of its beautiful perfecto shape and the delicate golden brown wrapper which compliments nicely the design of the gold/pink band. The whole thing looks very elegant and I expected the experience to match up to the expectations. I believe the brand is named after Sharon Holt, who owns Southern Draw Cigars with her husband, Robert. The cigar is handrolled at the AJ Fernandez' factory in Nicaragua and only produced in small batches. All tobaccos in the blend are from Nicaragua with the exception of the wrapper which is Ecuador Connecticut seed. This cigar hit all the notes that I love: creamy, smooth, woody, nutty, with just a light pepper in a medium bodied, mild-medium strength smoke. Not a heavy smoke by any standards, yet very nice flavor and aroma. Draw and burn were beyond reproach. I recommend this excellent cigar to both new smokers and seasoned aficionados.
