Then check out Drew Estate’s newest release, the BOTL (Brothers of the Leaf) and get ready to be transported to a time when it was cool to say, “Back in the day”. BOTL.org was one of the first online communities for cigar aficionados to discuss cigars (and it still is). Think of it as a virtual herf session. To honor them, Drew Estate has produced the BOTL cigar. This medium-strength premium cigar sports a bold, dark USA Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper that is draped over an Ecuadorian Connecticut binder, which houses Nicaraguan fillers to produce a memorable stick that is rich in flavor and aroma.

Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

USA Connecticut Broadleaf
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Connecticut Broadleaf is grown in the United States' Connecticut Valley and is prized for its dark, oily, full flavored and aromatic characteristics. The plants are grown in full sun giving this cigar wrapper its characteristic sweetness. The Connecticut Broadleaf plant leaves are mainly processed as maduro tobacco. Today, Connecticut Broadleaf seeds are being grown in other countries besides the United States.
Binder
Ecuadorian Connecticut
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Due to almost permanent cloudy skies, which provide a natural shade, Ecuador is the ideal place to grow Connecticut shade tobacco. The cloud cover allows the tobacco to grown without shade cloths, which reduces its production costs. Ecuadorian Connecticut shade grown is typically used for wrappers and binders.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

One cannot help but to notice this exquisite, rustic looking dark brown cigar--BOTL--Brothers of the Leaf. BOTL was a very large cigar forum that has since dwindled down in size due to other social medias but does still exist. In 2019 Drew Estate produced this new version of the BOTL cigar in their honor. It hosts a Broadleaf wrapper, Ecuadorian Connecticut binder and Nicaraguan fillers. The BOTL is made in three sizes: Corona, Corona Gorda, and Lancero. Upon 1st light, coffee notes are upfront along with some earth and woodiness. In the background pepper notes are stirring. Going into the 2nd third, the coffee notes are still upfront while the pepper notes are increasing. The earthy and woody notes are still lingering. I was also experiencing some citrus notes fading in and out. Into the final third, the pepper definitely took over until the end but really did not overpower the blend. I was also tasting a smokey/charred taste which I happen to love! The overall strength and body were pretty much a medium level throughout which made for a nice balance. The draw was a bit loose for my preference, but not a problem. I did have a bit of tunneling, but I believe it was from the wind as I was smoking this outside. There was also an enormous amount of smoke output. The BOTL was not overly complex but was consistent and I thoroughly enjoyed it until the very end. Great cigar for the novice or experienced smoker -- give it a try! Enjoy!

Beautiful stick to look at, dark mottled brown wrapper with some veins. Pleasant cedary aroma and cold-draw. Lots of thick white smoke. Just sort of "good but not great" to me on the flavor / aroma - nothing really jumped out. Worth a try but I likely won't buy more.

Great cigar. Drew estate produces another gem. I've gravitated towards the smaller and thinner cigars as if late and this one didnt disappoint. Burn was a tad uneven but I may have not let them settle in the humidor long enough. Aroma was great and flavor was consistent andpleasant. Another drew estate product I will always have on hand in the humidor.
