The Foundation Charter Oak Habano is a line extension to the Charter Oak brand. The brand pays tribute to the historic centuries old oak tree that symbolizes the state of Connecticut’s early heritage. The Charter Oak Habano is composed of a Nicaraguan binder and filler that is masterly cloaked by an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. It is a medium bodied stick with a spicy profile. The Foundation Charter Oak Habano is expertly hand crafted at Tabacalera Fernandez in Nicaragua for the Foundation Cigar Company.

Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Ecuadorian Habano
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuadorian Habano wrapper has become one of the most used cigar wrappers in the market. Grown primarily by the Oliva family, this tobacco originated from Habano or H2000 seeds brought to Ecuador from Cuba. This leaf is rich and flavorful thanks to the temperate climate of Ecuador and the quality of its volcanic soil.

Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

Very good cigar. Great size, I like the way it feels in my mouth. Had some a crack in the wrapper upon arrival. Also had some draw issues, but this is likely due to over-humidification. Definitely got some leather and pepper off this one. Medium bodied. Would recommend it as a daily driver.

Foundation cigars are for me a discovery. I tried them thanks to this pack. All cigars where great. I am not fond of full bodied strong cigars but the Gueguense Toro Huaco was super duper. The Charter Oak, the least expensive of the pack happens to be in my opinion the best cigar in this price range so I now got a whole box of them. The cigar cutter is a top quality cutter.

I would say this cigar lives in the realm of the top 10 cigar of its price range. A distinctive sweet aroma, Medium to mild. It does burn rather fast but is a really good cigar. I purchased a box and I am happy i did.

My first Foundation cigars did not disappoint. This is how a sampler should be put together. Including a product guide should be a standard, and I hope more brands will do the same. The cutter, too, is beautiful and heavy duty. I haven’t used it because I don’t want to tarnish it, but trust me it’s sharp haha

First third was a struggle, needed double/triple puffs to produce any smoke. Second third was the same, a nice tingly pepper appeared, but still hardly any smoke. Final third opened up after I managed to pull out a massive twig but by this time the cigar was warm and squishy and hardly produced any flavours. All in all a disappointing experience.

Foundation’s Charter Oak series was created as a tribute to the state of Connecticut and its rich tobacco history. It also happens to be Nick Melillo’s home state. Nick is the founder of the Foundation Cigars Company. So! With its rich history and Melillo’s reputation as a master cigar crafter, I had to have one. This torpedo had a flawless Ecuadorian wrapper with a slight sheen that begged to be smoked. The construction was firm with a slight give. It had a pleasant floral aroma off the foot and body. Upon lighting, I was greeted with a deep tobacco sweetness and hints of spice. The burn was sharp, and the ash had a grey-white hue to it. Into the second third, the tobacco sweetness stayed the course, but the spice tapered down a bit. The retro-hale was peppery but not overpowering. Its finish was long and creamy. During the final third, the tobacco sweetness took over and it was accompanied by faint earthy notes. Its strength was medium, but it leaned a little towards the full side. I paired it with an ice cold Cherry Coke Zero with a splash of lime, which brought out the cigar’s sweetness. Overall, I recommend this fine cigar to aficionados who enjoy a well-made cigar with a fine flavor profile and a budget-friendly price.

A very tasty smoke that started strong on pepper then settled down into a vanilla sweetness. Good draw but this one was a bit soft n spongy leading to a tough burn that I had to stay on top of to keep from going out on me. I bought the Grande, but think any future purchases will be the Rothschild as I can see this being a nice 30-45 minute smoke after work when I don’t have a lot of time. This stick does lots of things really well is definitely a great value option!

Delicious cigar. Not a spicy as I had hoped for, but still very tasty. The Rothschild smokes smoother than the larger/longer rolls which have a tendency to run and the wrapper quickly unwraps.

This smoke was disappointing. The first third was harsh but mellowed out somewhat. The flavor was simple and didn’t offer any transitions other than a consistent pepper taste. The connecticut and maduro versions are much better.
