The Oliva Serie V Maduro is a special edition cigar that is released once a year. It is handmade in Nicaragua by the Oliva Cigar Co, which has been crafting fine cigars for more than one century. It features an oily Mexican San Andres maduro wrapper that sheaths a Nicaraguan binder and filler. The Oliva Serie V Maduro is a medium bodied premium that delivers a complexity of flavors.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).
Wrapper
Mexican San Andres Maduro
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Mexican tobacco is very dark and the best leaves can be used as maduro wrappers. San Andres Maduro is a thick, medium bodied dark leaf, also called San Andres Morron. Like Connecticut Broadleaf, San Andres Maduro is stalk cut and used for binder and wrapper.

Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Jalapa Valley Ligero
Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

Oliva Cigar Company is Nicaragua's second largest grower of tobacco and one of the largest cigarmakers in the world. It all started in 1886 when Melanio Oliva first grew tobacco in Cuba. In 1995, his grandson Gilberto Oliva would launch the Oliva cigar brand, produced in Esteli, Nicaragua. The company's flagship brand, Oliva Serie V, has obtained some of the highest ratings in cigar publications worldwide. Their cigars use mostly tobacco harvested by the company in their various farms in Nicaragua.

A big fan of the serie v, so I assumed I would enjoy the serie v maduro and I was right. The draw and smoke output was fantastic. I saw alot of reviews that there was alot of pepper, but I didn't experience that at all. In fact it was a very mild smoke with respect to spiciness.

Very nice stick. Draw and burn were perfect. Ash hung on for at least first third of cigar. Definitely full bodied, but I didn’t get the sweetness I was expecting. There was a hint of spice, but otherwise flavors were a bit muted. Nice looking stick.

Being nearly 4-5 years in world of cigars, this was my first Oliva & I have to say it did not disappoint me. I admit that I'm more used to smoking infused cigars (yeah I know) because of the sweet taste, but this one was rather smooth and with perfect with my cognac. The draw was really nice, not too overwhelming and created the right amount of smoke. Definitely adding these into my rotation.

Excellent cigar with bountiful strong flavor and class. Perfect construction and roll. No relights and a host of earth, cedar, a touch of sweetness, and a bit of restrained molasses. This is one of my favorite full flavored cigars. Immaculate in all areas... I will keep them stocked! Cant really rate Aroma.. the deep rich good taste upstages the smell of the stick. Beautiful presentation, very well built, dense, dark cover, smell and aroma of cold tobacco. Preferred size and shape (6x60). Perfect draw, 100% regular burning, consistent ash and light gray color. Flavors of tea, earth and tobacco, without much evolution, but very good. No pepper and no bitterness, smooth smoked despite medium to strong strength. Excellent cigar like others Oliva's V line. One of my favorites.

Love this cigar. Razor sharp burn, toasted tabocco, chocolate, a little bit of something sweet and develops some pepper in the last third. Billows smoke and is super smooth. Can't fault it.

I just purchased a box of these and were pleasantly surprised. They were much better than last year's torpedo offering. I found them very robust and full of flavor. The wrapper was nice and oily and the burn was purfect.

I was lucky to get my hands on a couple of these nice looking torpedoes. The draw wasn't very good; however, overall a good cigar. I don't know if it was worth the quest to get it. Slightly disappointed.
