The Padilla 88 Aniversario is a remembrance premium cigar that celebrates the birthday and memory of Heberto Padilla, who was a Cuban poet and political prisoner under the Castro government. He was also the father of Ernesto Padilla who is the owner and founder of Padilla Cigars. In 2020, Heberto would have been 88 years old. This special anniversary stick is part of the Padilla 1932 series. The Padilla 88 Aniversario is a medium strength and flavorful smoke that is well-balanced and has a great construction with a sharp burn. It is handmade in Nicaragua at AJ Fernandez’s Tabacalera Fernandez.

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuadorian Habano wrapper has become one of the most used cigar wrappers in the market. Grown primarily by the Oliva family, this tobacco originated from Habano or H2000 seeds brought to Ecuador from Cuba. This leaf is rich and flavorful thanks to the temperate climate of Ecuador and the quality of its volcanic soil.

Nicaraguan Corojo
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan Corojo ’99 tobacco was first used as a wrapper in Cuba during the late 20th Century. It was then grown in Ecuador and eventually in Nicaragua. Primarily, it is used as a wrapper, but it is also used as a binder. It is regarded for its spiciness.
Criollo
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Costa Rica Habano tobacco is a Cuban-seed tobacco that is grown in Costa Rica, and it is fermented using traditional Cuban methods. The tobacco is highly regarded for its Cubanesque flavor and aroma.

Very classy and tasty stick. Beautiful wrapper, appearance and box pressing. Draw and burn are spot on. Starts off with a leathery peppery blast but soon tapers off. Almost has a buttery taste and finish that keeps you coming bk for more. Solid ash crown and decadent aroma throughout. No doubt you're smoking some of the finest tobacco Nicaragua has to offer with this one.

I see somewhat mixed reviews below but for me this cigar was a home run. Excellent construction and appearance with a good full draw and consistent slow burn that lasted a good hour and half. Earthy with almost honey-like notes. Very slight pepper underneath. A bit pricey but still a thumbs up.

The Padilla 88 is an exquisite cigar ... one of the few that creates that "creamy smoke" that is so enjoyable. I'm cheap and this is one of the few premium cigars I don't hesitate to buy.

Beautiful cigar with strong and bold and inviting pre-light aroma. A couple of burn touch-ups, nothing serious, the draw was strained in spite of V-cut. Smoked one on arrival …. Stunningly poor presence in taste of smoke and hollow flavor. After weeks in my humidor next to my Padron line-up, fired up another one… no improvement in flavor or overall substance! Somebody or someone missed the boat on this stogie …. Probably one of the most unpleasant cigars I ever tried to smoke …. I am a full flavor fan… but this cigar came nowhere near enjoyment level. I could not smoke the whole cigars, both try’s. Beautifully presented but wretched in flavor similar to having a dirty sock in one’s mouth.
