The Dominican Republic is the world's first producer of cigars. Most factories are located in Santiago, in the center of the island, and in close proximity to the tobacco fields grown in the fertile Cibao Valley. While tobacco and cigars have always traditionally been produced in the Dominican Republic, many Cuban cigar makers established in the Dominican Republic after the Cuban communist revolution, elevating the quality of Dominican cigars.

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuador is the perfect place to grow wrappers, because it is located on the Equator! And it has rich soils too. The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the wrapper plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. Ecuador supplies Connecticut and Sumatra type wrappers to many cigar factory in the world.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Tobacco is grown in many islands of the Archipelago but, as far as cigars are concerned, Sumatra and Java are the ones. Sumatra Wrappers are worldwide known. Central Java (Vorstenland) and East Java (Besuki) give fillers and wrappers in abundance. Indonesia is a key country for cigar tobacco.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.
Filler (or “tripa” in Spanish) is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar. The Dominican Republic is considered one of the most premier tobacco growing countries in the world. The filler tobacco grown in this Caribbean island nation ranges from mild to full bodied. Olor Dominicano and Piloto Cubano are the main types of tobacco grown in the Dominican Republic.

Overall pretty boring and not memorable. Not a “bad” cigar by any means but just not a lot going on. The Villiger TAA Exclusive, which is also 90 cents cheaper packs WAY more flavorful and is much more complex. Don’t think I’ll pick it up again with better options out there for the same, if not cheaper price.

You know, I bought this and the torpedo back in Jan. I remember not liking the Torpedo. I am smoking the Robusto right now and it's a very pleasant afternoon smoke -- all light coffee and cedar. Nothing to wow you but also nothing to really ding. Well-made, medium body, quite nice really. For a $10 Robusto, it's among the better ones I've had. The CA score probably had a ton of other factors behind it, but if I had smoked this blind, I would have said "pretty, pretty, pretty good."

Over all a great cigar, the tones are not bold. A great cigar to finish your day after a light dinner. Tones of cinnamon, nuts and some earthiness are always welcome. I cant wait to smoke another-one.

This is my first smoke of the La Flor Deynclan. Is is a good mild cigar, with tastes of coffee and coaco. Nice burn and draw, and is a great summer cigar. I will buy this cigar again and recommend it for a nice summer smoke.

I’ve been looking forward to reviewing this particular stick for some time. I’ve smoked a couple of them In the past and have been very pleased each time! Upon removing the cigar from the cellophane the appearance has a slight sheen and is well constructed. The aroma has hints of citrus and floral subtleties. A hint of honey sweetness if you will. FIRST THIRD: A mild sweetness with hints of cinnamon appear initially, followed by a suggestion of walnut and cedar. Burn is slightly uneven, but nothing unmanageable. SECOND THIRD: The flavor of chocolate starts to appear at the point, with subtle indicators of spice. The walnut and sweetness have subsided and a slight saltiness accompanies the chocolate as well as the orange flavor.The burn has stabilized and is more even, with a good amount of smoke coming from each pull. THIRD: The citrus/orange flavor has become more pronounced, along with hints of chocolate. The walnut flavor is noticeable as well. The burn continues to be even, with an ample amount of smoke with each puff. If you like a medium body cigar with some simple complexity throughout, you’ll enjoy this cigar!

I am always eager to smoke a new cigar, especially one with a 4 country blend—Ecuadorian wrapper, Indonesian binder, and Dominican and Nicaraguan filler. Upon first light, a bit of pepper pops but followed closely with creamy, fruity notes along with cocoa notes. A very nice sweet creaminess to the smoke. Into the second third, the spice increases but the coffee notes are so predominant that it is extremely smooth. The sweet fruitiness is still hanging in there! Into the last third, the sweetness begins to disappear and cedar and coffee notes take you to the finish. The cigar has a well balanced complexity. The construction was perfect— long strong light gray ash with a perfect draw. I would highly recommend this medium bodied smoke. Enjoy,
