Michael Herklots from Making Music to Making Cigars

Michael Herklots, the founder of Ferio Tego cigars, is a well-known cigar impresario, but few people know he was an accomplished jazz musician before he got involved in cigars.

At age 10, Herklots developed an interest in drums, soon he was performing in the waiting room of his father’s medical practice. Eventually, he studied music in college.

At this point, he became interested in cigars and got a job at a cigar kiosk, which he started managing. From there, he landed a job with Davidoff cigars in New York, while establishing himself as a successful jazz drummer. Michael was soon promoted to General Manager and ran two Davidoff stores, but he kept playing gigs. Ultimately, Herklots left Davidoff and accepted a position as Vice President with Nat Sherman. When this historic brand closed, Herklots founded Ferio Tego.
