Anniversaries are typically a joyous occasion, and in the case of Rocky Patel, his latest Thirtieth Anniversary cigar proudly celebrates the brand's whopping three decades in the industry. No stranger to anniversary blends, Rocky's most recent offering is probably my favorite of them all, sporting a chocolatey Mexican San Andres maduro wrapper on top of Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Nicaragua and Honduras. I smoked the 6 x 60 vitola, something I did purposely to step outside of my comfort zone. The dry draw was a little snug at first, which worried me, but after lighting, the draw quickly loosened up and I was surrounded by thick chewy smoke within moments. What I LOVE about this cigar is the journey it took me on - opening with notes of ripe cherry and dark chocolate, then morphing into baking spice mixed with anise, and then transitioning into what I could only describe as an almost marshmallow-y texture that had me looking at the cigar after each puff... this is one complex smoke. The burn never disappointed me, and the ash practically had to be forced off after a couple of inches, which leads me to believe this may be a good contender for a "longest ash" competition. Although I wasn't fortunate enough to have an adult beverage available this time around, I can only imagine how a high quality (preferably spiced) rum would really let this stogie shine. Celebrate 30 years of Rocky Patel with one of his best and most interesting blends yet!

The taste was incredible. Spice and chocolate stuck immediately. It was earthy as well. Smooth draw with all the flavors exaggerated. Box pressed makes a difference. Great stick.
