The Murcielago (Mur-see-uh-law-go) cigar gets its name from the word "bat" in Spanish. Erick Espinosa and Eddie Ortega thought of this name as they visited a bat filled cave in Mexico. And it is fitting because the cigar wrapper on this baby is a Mexican San Andres. Made by Pepin Garcia in Nicaragua, this strong and spicy maduro is a medium to full bodied, box pressed gem. The Murcielago Toro is a must try for maduro lovers.

  Handmade in Nicaragua with Mexican San Andres wrapper and Nicaraguan tobaccos, Murcielago cigars first appeared in 2009 and quickly became very popular. After a couple of years hiatus while Erik Espinosa, the brand owner, restructured his company and worked on establishing his own cigar factory in Nicaragua (La Zona), Espinosa Cigars announces that "the bat is back". Murcielago means bat in Spanish, and the cigar is named after the bats Erik encountered while visiting a cave in Mexico. The blend has been reverse engineered by Espinosa and relaunched in 2015.

  Mexican tobacco is very dark and the best leaves can be used as maduro wrappers. In San Andres de Tuxtla (in the state of Vera Cruz), there is a very interesting production of Sumatra seed wrappers. Dark air cured tobaccos are produced in Mexico, mainly in Vera Cruz and Tampico provinces, on the East Coast along the Gulf. There is also some production in Yucatan. Mexico's volcanic soil yields tobacco that is spicy and earthy, with a very distinctive flavor.
