For the first time ever, Gurkha is releasing an exclusive cigar for the Tobacconist's Association of America (TAA), and just in time for the 50th anniversary of the esteemed organization. Featuring an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper on top of an Ecuadorian binder and Nicaraguan and Peruvian filler, this full-bodied box-pressed beauty will be limited to just 1,000 boxes of 10, so make sure to celebrate the one-two combo of the first Gurkha TAA cigar and the TAA's fifty year milestone before it's passed you by.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuadorian Habano wrapper has become one of the most used cigar wrappers in the market. Grown primarily by the Oliva family, this tobacco originated from Habano or H2000 seeds brought to Ecuador from Cuba. This leaf is rich and flavorful thanks to the temperate climate of Ecuador and the quality of its volcanic soil.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Ecuador is the perfect place to grow binders, because it is located on the Equator and it has rich soils too. The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. Ecuador supplies Connecticut and Sumatra type binders to many cigar factory in the world.
Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

It seems like Gurkha annually floods the market with a plethora of different lines, line extensions, sub-lines, etc. Oh, and then there's their line of outlandish $15,000 humidors. Point being, sometimes I forget which Gurkha I'm smoking (thank God for cigar bands.) After all that, I enjoy most of their vitolas. This iteration was no different. Good, not great. For the right price, I'd buy again.

Box pressed, decent construction, firm but a little too soft. Not aroma that I could enjoy, the taste was far too light to tell if it had any taste. Very easy draw, with a decent amount of smoke. The burn was uneven the entire time, and it had to be relit 2 or 3 times. This is a big name in the cigar world but I don't know why.

Nice barnyard aroma, wrapper feels like it has some tooth or grit. Draw is slightly open lots of smoke production. Taste notes: slight sweet with some chocolate, some bite on the retrohale. Rich deep flavor with chocolate cedar and a hint of earth, no spice on this yet. Smoke has leaves the mouth slightly dry but has a nice texture to it. Burn on first 3rd razor sharp so far. Ash has a charcoal look to it and is holding well. Cigar has a nice feel to it with a slight sponginess on the box press. This is a well made cigar. Second 3rd, dark chocolate transitions to the forefront, still with some cedar , coffee to the background. Was a little hot because ive been pulling on it alot really good. I let it sit a few minutes cooled down, still burning flawlessly, has some slight black pepper hitting back of the palatte but more sweet then spicy all in all. Not real heavy, about a medium strength cigar, almost to the last 3rd it feels like the black pepper picks up with some chocolate mixed in cedar fades, hint of earth, last bit after band is another shot of pepper with the other flavors in background chocolate still with some earth. No burn issues draw has remained open, nubbed it, was excellent.

Ghurka has finally produced a cigar just for the TAA retailer’s. The Ghurka Heritage Rosado originates from Nicaragua. The heritage has an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper and binder. The filler combines two different combinations, one being from Nicaragua and the other from Peru. My first impression of this beautiful cigar is the rich dark reddish brown leaf. The pre light aromas that I get are sweet earth and leather, with hints of nutmeg and raisins. Starting with the first third I noticed hints of black pepper and coffee. This cigar has a nice sharp razor burn as I approached the second third, with chocolate and spice and hints of coffee. As I approach the final third I enjoyed hints of creamy oak and honey with hints of nutmeg. This is a well rounded cigar with great flavors and aromas. It was really hard for me to put this cigar down. I enjoyed it very much. Since this is a limited release I suggest you come by and pick one up before they are all gone.

These Gurkha Heritage TAA Exclusives have been flying off the shelves lately. So I decided to see what it is my customers enjoy about them. The first 1/3 is bitter like an IPA.. The bitterness settles into the background and sweet brown sugar takes over at the half. A decent amount of black pepper is also present. This became the only pleasant mark. Final 1/3 rounded out the smoking experience with earth. Construction was poor. Soft spots throughout, loose draw, wavy burnline, and flaky ash. I can honestly say the only Gurkha Ive had a favorable impression of is the Ghost. This cigar could have been much more in my opinion specifically at a MRSP of $10. PSSITA
