Diamond Crown Robusto No. 4 5 1/2 * 54, Box of 15

J.C. Newman Cigar Co. released Diamond Crown cigars on the celebration of their 100th anniversary in 1995. The cigar is a super premium made by the Fuente Family with a silky smooth Connecticut Fermented Wrapper. This wrapper, unlike regular wrappers, is fermented twice to give the cigar its distinctive light Rosado color and smooth flavor.

Connecticut Shade wrapper grown in the United States has a mild to medium flavor and a silky quality, making it one of the most expensive and sought-after cigar wrappers in the cigar industry.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Dominican Republic is a traditional tobacco-growing country. In the 60's, a Cuban seed was introduced and the resulting tobacco, called Piloto Cubano, became famous as a good substitute of the Cuban tobacco that was no longer allowed to enter the USA. Piloto Cubano is full bodied while the Dominican Olor tobacco is milder but more aromatic.

Despite some uneven burn this is one of my favorite sticks. Storing these in correct humidifier is a must. This fermented tobacco I think is sensitive fluctuating humidity level.

When you hear the name JC Newman you think “quality”. That is exactly how I felt about this Diamond Crown No.3 Natural. Will have to admit that Connecticut wrappers are not usually for my palate but this one intrigued me as it is a special Connecticut shade wrapper which has been aged for 5 years and has been fermented twice for extra smoothness. All of these cigars are made in the same 54 ring gauge with different lengths (except the figurado). The filler is Dominican and the wrapper is oily, buttery and soft. I usually smoke their maduro wrapper but was feeling for something a bit lighter. I was surprised that upon first light, pepper was upfront shortly after joined with a light sweetness for a nice balance. Pleased to see how smooth this cigar was thus far. Right off the bat, the draw and burn were awesome. Towards the second third, a really delicious vanilla note started to emerge along with some woodiness and pepper lingering. Definitely not a mild cigar by all means—a good medium, complex cigar at this point. Into the second third, there were really no major transitions but still very smooth and creamy! Nutty notes were also upfront—construction still spot on! Into the final third, woodiness amped up as the pepper and vanilla disappeared. Overall, this cigar was sweet and rich with nice complexity and great construction and smoke output. Definitely a must try! Enjoy.

I purchased the 5.5" to compare with the 4.5" Diamond Crown - There was a difference in the moisture when I received them. These will need to relax in the humidor- at 70% as these were shipped at 100 degree weather and the box was cracked on top- thanks to who ever stepped on it. I had a bad side burn on the one I smoked the day I received them.

This caramel colored cigar is made by Tabacalera Fuente for JC Newman Cigar Co., and it is everything you would expect in terms of high quality and excellent construction. The cigar I smoked had been aging in my humidor for almost a year, and what a delicious treat it was! The cigar is creamy, smooth, with lots of taste and hints of cedar. Those who are afraid to taste bitterness on a Connecticut wrapped cigar must try this well balanced smoke, there is no bitterness and it has the buttery quality you expect from a good Connecticut shade stick. The Diamond Crown Natural is mild to medium, a perfect stick for novices and connoisseurs alike.

This is an exceptional cigar that is oftentimes overlooked. Compare to an Ashton and Arturo Fuente in terms of aroma and taste, very smooth and creamy with hints of vanilla and allspice. Love the construction on these, it looks as if they are triple cap, very well made. Can't go wrong on these, highly recommend.

This caramel colored beauty is definitely a nice treat. The tastes of cedar vanilla and a light sweetness really make this cigar an enjoyable smoke for novices and aficionados alike. The construction is what you expect from JC Newman very high quality.
