J.C. Newman Cigar Co. released Diamond Crown Maduro cigars on the celebration of their 100th anniversary in 1995. The cigar is a super premium made by the Fuente Family with a rich Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro Wrapper. This wrapper is elegant and gives the cigar a complex, chocolate taste. The binder is Dominican and the fillers are a selection of 5 different tobaccos that have been aged for 5 years.

Most factories are located in Santiago, in the center of the island, and in close proximity to the tobacco fields grown in the fertile Cibao Valley. While tobacco and cigars have always traditionally been produced in the Dominican Republic, many Cuban cigar makers established in the Dominican Republic after the Cuban communist revolution, elevating the quality of Dominican cigars.

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Connecticut Broadleaf is grown in the United States' Connecticut Valley and is prized for its dark, oily, full flavored and aromatic characteristics. The plants are grown in full sun giving this cigar wrapper its characteristic sweetness. The Connecticut Broadleaf plant leaves are mainly processed as maduro tobacco. Today, Connecticut Broadleaf seeds are being grown in other countries besides the United States.
Binder
Dominican Republic
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Dominican Republic is a traditional tobacco-growing country. In the 60's, a Cuban seed was introduced and the resulting tobacco, called Piloto Cubano, became famous as a good substitute of the Cuban tobacco that was no longer allowed to enter the USA. Piloto Cubano is full bodied while the Dominican Olor tobacco is milder but more aromatic.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.
Filler (or “tripa” in Spanish) is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar. The Dominican Republic is considered one of the most premier tobacco growing countries in the world. The filler tobacco grown in this Caribbean island nation ranges from mild to full bodied. Olor Dominicano and Piloto Cubano are the main types of tobacco grown in the Dominican Republic.

This is a fabulous cigar. Slightly stiff draw, but easy to fix with a draw tool. Deep rich full bodied. Smoke on a full stomach!

Not sure what people like about Diamond Crown. I was gifted this heading into Easter and now that I've been through them I can reinforce my opinion that DC igars are subpar. All 4 had terrible construction and burns. Squishy, uneven packs, massive canoeing (uncorrectably bad).

flawless construction. very smooth, medium body, medium pepper, almost no strength. I was surprised by how different this size is from the same cigar different size the number 4. this was less sweet, had less transitions, less complex and just an inch shorter. the flavor more closely matched the diamond crown Maximus. this is more pronounced in the cedar flavor, less coffee and cocoa, still very consistent from start to finish. overall a different cigar then it's bigger brother the no. 4. but they share the same smoothness, both very balanced, still unlike any other Maduro I have smoked. very good incentive to try different size of the same blend to find which one you connect the most with. so far not disappointed by either one I've tried. find out for yourself. worth the price.

Delicious cigar and slightly different than the no 4. I found this to be smoother, sweeter and milder. Lots of flavors and trasitions. Primary taste of espresso, Cocoa (baking type), light cedar in the background. Worth every penny and easily one of my top 5 cigars. Try every size you won't be disappointed.

Excellent cigar. The draw was a little bit tight for my taste. However the flavors were complex, delicious mix of coffee, cocoa, some light fruity notes, sweet cedar, leather, medium plus flavors and almost no strength. definitely worth a try.

JC Newman has been synonymous with excellent cigars. The Diamond Crown Maduro is a testimony to that. What caught my eye first with the cigar is the dark oily look it has. It has a Connecticut Broadleaf Wrapper and a binder and filler from the Dominican Republic. At first light, you are introduced to hints of oak and cedar. Some hints of pepper are also present. It gives off a delicious, welcoming aroma that makes you love the cigar that much more. At the half way point, the hints of pepper do go up a little; not too much, just enough to keep the experience interesting. The hints of oak and cedar are still present, and the strength of the cigar does go up from medium to medium-full. Towards the end of the smoke, the hints of pepper do diminish a bit, while it still stays consistent with its flavor of oak and cedar throughout. This is one great cigar for anyone who wants to broaden their horizon and spoil themselves at the same time.

These were all excellent cigars, but perhaps not as top-notch as I had anticipated. I had the highest expectations for the Julius Caesar, but it was the blandest of the bunch. Or maybe I just got a weaker instance. That happens sometimes. The others were satisfying and flavorful. All looked great and smoked evenly. Some had more complexity than others.

The Diamond Crown Maduro is very high end company. I smoked one for the first time and this will be my #1. Very easy to smoke ,draw is smooth and the favor is super. I would recommend this cigar to anyone, new and old. This cigar smoked all the way down to my lips[ and then I put it in my pipe and smoked it. very clean and medicating. I was in AH.

With a twice fermented Connecticut broadleaf wrapper, this cigar has amazing flavor! From the looks of the almost black wrapper, one would automatically assume super strong-- quite the contrary. Very smooth and creamy smoke, not past medium body. Notes of coffee and leather are upfront on first light. Large smoke output throughout. No construction problems whatsoever-- great draw and burn. Into second third, chocolate, caramel and cocoa notes are upfront. This Maduro is probably one of the sweetest I have experienced. The cigar is not extremely complex but very very enjoyable. Same notes carried into last third. This cigar may be a bit pricey but well worth it. Has the perfect amount of sweetness.

I was drawn to this cigar because of the dark and inviting Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. After giving it a straight cut, I found the pre-light draw to be even more enticing than the appearance of this stick. Perfect balance of flow and resistance, filled with flavors of cocoa and caramel. After lighting up, I discovered that this cigar is much more mild than it appears to be, but still brimming with the chocolaty sweet maduro flavors that I expected. As I worked my way through it, I also noticed that it is not an incredibly complex cigar...the flavors it produced upon light up stayed fairly constant all the way through. Because those flavors worked so well for me however, I do not consider that a negative! It did pick up a bit of strength as it burned along with a bit of a tart, cherry like aftertaste. Burn was impeccable and smoke output volume was heavy. I will definitely be picking up a couple more to throw into the humidor for down the road. Cheers!
