The Perdomo Double Aged 12 Year Sun Grown is the company’s second release of 2014's limited edition cigar for which they have reserved their finest 12 year old tobaccos. All the tobaccos in the Nicaraguan blend have been first bale aged for 10 years and then aged in white oak bourbon barrels for two more years. The Double Aged 12 Year Vintage Sun Grown is medium bodied with bold and sweet flavors, with hints of almond and oak.

Nicaraguan cigar wrappers are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Wrappers grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro wrappers are all produced in Nicaragua.
Sungrown
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Sungrown cigar wrappers come from tobacco plants that are grown directly under the sun without the use of man made tents to give shade as in Shade grown wrappers. As opposed to the Shade grown plants, sun grown tobacco plants grown thicker leaves with thicker veins and darker color. Sungrown wrappers can be appreciated for their rich taste and sweet undertones.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

This cigar is a well balanced stick, good taste and burns well on this medium bodied roller. I had a bit of a hard time getting a good draw, but may have been a weak v cut on my part. Only tried one so far but enjoyed it with a good Shiner Bock, watching the Atlanta Supercross last Sunday.

Decent cigar, not great. Probably won't order again. Draw was a little loose and had to toss it during the 2nd third because it kept going out and wasn't enjoyable just frustrating at the point. I used to be big on Perdomo. Seems the last several I've smoked have been mediocre at best. Maybe just a run of bad luck, but I'm going to pass on Perdomo for awhile.

You may pay a premium but just look at one of these and consider the sheer effort, time and craftsmanship has gone into producing it. Now look at the price. That is what you call a bargain. This review is 1 of an 8-pack sampler which is two-each of four different vitolas (Robusto, Epicure, Goro Extra and Churchill) a really nice way to sample the line. This is the Epicure size which maybe is like a Toro 6.5" by 56. I got so carried away marveling at this gem and I almost forgot to do a opening examination but let's look the wrapper. It is smooth and soft, medium brown with a reddish hue. Construction appears to be spot-on, even pack, visible seams but it's the band that's catching my interest. Clearly this band is inspired by labels on bottles of good single malt Scotch whisky. It's the first band I've seen that contains tasting notes as well as descriptions of the tobacco. It mentions that it is Barrel-aged and Bale-aged, handmade in Nicaragua, aged 12 years. A very classy band. Now on to the flavor. First light impressions - first half inch or so is complex and it's all the things the band describes - sweet, spicy, smooth, and rich. It's a wonderfully well-balanced blend. This is something that could vault of the top of my favorites list and is probably the most expensive cigar I've ever purchased. These are the tasting notes printed on the band "A smooth smoke with a spicy sweet complexity, slight hints of oak and almond with a long warming finish". If that doesn't read like a bottle of Spirits label, I don't know what does. As someone who appreciates good Scotch and American Bourbon, I can honestly say that I taste this ex-bourbon cask influence in the flavor profile. This by no means a "flavored" cigar, but its aging conditions made a very positive influence to my tastes. In the middle third, the flavor has merely richened, still possessing the the "tasting notes" that were present in the beginning. In general, Perdomo cigars are not "transitional sticks", they tend to be very consistent throughout. The concept of a transitional flavor profile is a blender's

Since I recently had the privilege of visiting the Perdomo factory and farm in Nicaragua, I was honored to do a review on this Perdomo 12 year Double Aged Vintage Sungrown cigar! After experiencing everything from seeding to box making first hand, I have such a greater understanding and appreciation for the cigar manufacturers. The Perdomo Double Aged 12 year Vintage made its first appearance in 2014. There are three different blends -- Connecticut, Sungrown and Maduro. The binders and fillers have been bale aged for 10 years, then another 2 years in charred bourban barrels.Definitely makes for a very well balanced, full flavored smoke! The cigar appears flawless--hidden seams, few veins, and a gorgeous light colored wrapper. Upon first light, a very nice sweetness is upfront along with nutty and fruity notes, combined with the perfect amount of spice. A good amount of smoke output--perfect draw(I saw their big huge draw test machines in the factory that every single cigar is put through many times). Into the second third, the creaminess is amped up along with sweet and fruity notes. Very smooth even though the spiciness is still maintained which combines for a beautiful balance. At this point, construction is still spot on--great draw and razor sharp burn. Into the final third, the flavors are creamy, sweet, spicy, nutty, vanilla, and I taste a little coffee. Strength is medium-full but very, very smooth. This cigar starts off with a bang and ends in the same manner. Even when I am smoking this cigar in public(where people are usually offended) I get compliments on the aroma!!! Definitely worth the price and is a must try! It's everything you want in a premium cigar -- great construction, complexity and a perfect finish. Enjoy!

Smells of barnyard right out of the cellophane pre-lighting. First third is chocolate, jerky, and charcoal grill, smoothing out in the second third to sweet bbq and salted butter. Finished with. Mild sweetness, nut and earth.

Anything sun grown from Perdomo is going to be a winner, and this one doesn't disappoint. Full flavor, smooth, with character but still mellow. Lots of tasty smoke. Tawny Port with this one for me.

A rating of 4.9 says it all. I’ve been smoking other Perdomo cigars over the years but the PDA12 is absolutely the best. Yes I’m partial to a Churchill and the color, flavor and smoothness of the PDA12 is the best I’ve ever smoked. Add bourbon ?? for an enhanced experience.

Without a doubt I am a huge Perdomo fan of almost all their lables (except Maduro - I just ain't a maduro guy). I am most impressed with the 6x60 Reserve Champagne which is my go to daily cigar. When I want even more excellence I reach for a 6.5x60 Double Aged 12 Year Sun Grown. I recently smoked what is fast becoming another outstanding favorite, the Grand Cru which will occupy a significant portion of my humidor.

Epicure - one of my favorites. If you like oak and almond with a medium/full smoke you will love this cigar. The further you go into the smoke the stronger the almond hints. This is a 2+ hour cigar for me.

Bad news, then good news: It was dark, and I think I cut it a little too deep and the wrapper started to unroll on me a little bit... my fault. Next, it was quite breezy in the garden at the Las Vegas Flamingo that evening which I think caused it to burn rather unevenly... nature's fault. My experience with Perdomo cigars is that they are always beautifully constructed and, under normal circumstances, perform flawlessly. Now for the good news: Wonderful(!) mild flavors of leather, nutmeg, oak and malt with just the slightest hint of spice. (I'm not a fan of spice, but this one had just enough to intrigue me, but not enough to turn me off.) No harshness or bitterness at all in this cigar. It smoked all the way down to a nub with perfectly wonderful and consistent flavors. I like cigars that don't linger in my mouth for days, and this one performed beautifully in that respect. On the strength meter, I would place this one solidly on the medium mark. Overall, this is certainly one of my new favorites! Thanks again Perdomo!

Lots of good things to say about this cigar. Smooth look , medium in strength but full in flavor. Burn rate slows the more you smoke it, intensifying the flavors towards the end, Excellent draw and solid light gray ash. Relights no needed.The perfect cigar for a special occasion or for the everyday smoke.
