AJ Fernandez has hit a home run with their 2014 launch of New World, a cigar that is both affordable and flavorful. This medium to full bodied stick's name is inspired by the discovery of tobacco in the New World by Christopher Colombus. This lightly box-pressed Nicaraguan puro is handmade in Esteli with a dark Nicaraguan wrapper, a binder from Jalapa and fillers from Ometep, Condega and Esteli. Fans of maduro cigars will find this an absolute delight.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Nicaraguan cigar wrappers are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Wrappers grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro wrappers are all produced in Nicaragua.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Another masterpiece by A.J. Fernandez. You’re drawn in by a beautiful Maduro wrapper with a unique band that tells a story. This is a nice looking BP stick by the way. The draw and burn were perfect and smoke billows out of this cigar. The aroma was very thick and spicy. From light up to the nub I tasted notes of dark chocolate and black coffee with the peppery notes intensifying through every third. This is one of my favorites and is definitely box worthy.

Smooth chocolate with black coffee. Don’t let these two notes lead you to believe they are sweet. By the final third they develop even deeper taste of the same. Razor sharp burn to the very end. I’ve had sticks twice this price it near as good. When you can get them with a discount, you can get them down to $5 a stick by the box. These will become your favorite too

I was first turned on to the New World Cigar when I purchased a top 5 cigar sampler. I enjoyed the smoke very much. I then had my second one in a best cigars of 2019 10 pack sampler. Being impressed for a second time I purchased a box of the New World Almirante Belicoso. I love the torpedo box press. It is a smooth taste, with an easy draw and a nice slow burn. It holds an ash very well. I will definitely keeps these in my humidor!

These smokes would be worth it at twice the price!! They start with a combination of mushroom and new earth, and run through a whole range of sweet spices before settling down to a comfortable hickory-dominated wood finish. The most stunning part is the burn--every other box-pressed cigar I've tried has burned unevenly in one way or another, but not these. Another quality offering from AJF that I highly reommend!

Great looking stick draw was perfect a few small burn corrections but nothing to complain about. Flavors were great for the price reminded me a lot of a pardon but for a much better value. My one small complaint was it did burn a little fast probably due to the lower price it had less tobacco but the quality is there. Pick you one up you won't be disappointed

This is a reorder and I love this cigar! It's a "beefy" looking stick that looks more like a chocolate bar then a cigar. Taste wise there's just enough spice, sweetness, a little salty and bitterness with cream lingering on your palate.For me, this is what every box pressed Toro should taste like. Presentation is awesome with a beautiful wrapper and band on the foot. Inside the wrapper you'll find AJ's signature written on the inside. If you're looking for a good, cheap everyday cigar with excellent smoke output, this is it. This is one cigar you'll be happy to pass out to friends without breaking the bank.

I thought that this was going to give me the same feedback as the Belicoso, and then it showed off with a progressive bouquet of aromas and flavours. AJ Fernendez has still a lot to adjust with this line but this stick is definitely one of the most interesting for the price, at least from the Nicaragua region...

I only had to try one of these to convince me to get a box. Wonderful flavors with generous smoke output and beautiful box-pressed construction. They usually require a touch-up or two, but that's a small price to pay for the great flavors. Nice draw, medium to full body and relatively low on the strength-o-meter. Give these a try, you'll love 'em!

While the New World scores nicely in a lot of areas, it is in the area of flavor where this cigar really shines. The $6.00 price point is a nice bonus on top of everything – and there is no doubt the value is there. I found this a great cigar to “graduate” to something fuller and stronger. Experienced cigar enthusiasts will enjoy this cigar.

This cigar stands out on the shelves, it seems like someone took the time and effort to create a very nice stick. Combining a striking off white, red and gold label with a dark oily wrapper it catches the eye. Lighting up this cigar is a pleasure, with creamy chocolate notes right up front to my palate followed by some earthiness and mild pepper that gives it balance. The second third is earthy, peppery, and sweet all together continuing the same until the end. Some herbal notes here and there. Perfect construction, even burn line, flavorful and excellent draw. Medium to full on strengh, the cigar is all about flavor and in my opinion this its major accomplishment No relights need it!

Excellent value. Starts out smooth and oaky with just enough spice to keep things interesting. The flavor is pretty consistent throughout the cigar and the spice kicks up a notch toward the end. Excellent smoke and I will definitely be buying a box!

The normal box pressed proportions don't apply to this one, but don't let that distract you. This is one wide and flat stick that's worth making the adjustment. It's a medium bodied smoke that maintains it wonderful taste all the way through...highly recommended.
