My Father's La Antiguedad is the follow up to their very successful line Flor de Las Antillas, with added strength for those looking for a more full bodied experience. The Garcia family uses a beautiful dark brown Ecuadorian Habano Rosado Oscuro wrapper, a double binder of Nicaraguan Corojo and Criollo, and a blend of Nicaraguan fillers that have been aged at least three and a half years. The initial peppery flavors of the cigar mellow down to reveal a complex array of sweet, cocoa and fruity flavors. La Antiguedad means Antiquity in Spanish.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

Ecuadorian Habano
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuadorian Habano wrapper has become one of the most used cigar wrappers in the market. Grown primarily by the Oliva family, this tobacco originated from Habano or H2000 seeds brought to Ecuador from Cuba. This leaf is rich and flavorful thanks to the temperate climate of Ecuador and the quality of its volcanic soil.
Binder
Nicaraguan Corojo
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan Corojo ’99 tobacco was first used as a wrapper in Cuba during the late 20th Century. It was then grown in Ecuador and eventually in Nicaragua. Primarily, it is used as a wrapper, but it is also used as a binder. It is regarded for its spiciness.
Criollo
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Costa Rica Habano tobacco is a Cuban-seed tobacco that is grown in Costa Rica, and it is fermented using traditional Cuban methods. The tobacco is highly regarded for its Cubanesque flavor and aroma.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

Cigar looked great but construction was bad. Mine had a pretty bad plug was very hard to draw even after trying perfect draw tool maybe 10 times. At about half way it opened up and was ok but probably not what it was supposed to taste like given the overheating and pulling out pieces of tobacco to clear the plug

This is an excellent cigar through and through. The first half was a bit sweet, in the way that dark chocolate is sweet. Passing the halfway point the chocolate-y sweetness gave way to a flavor sensation more reminiscent of whipped cream. The woody and peppery flavors are rather muted, which I happen to prefer. This one takes 5 stars across the board from me. It’s easy and smooth to smoke while still giving distinct flavor, and a lovely aroma.

These cigar "Samplers" are great. When I'm looking for a change in smokes, I usually purchase a sampler pack in my chosen strength. These are a perfect example of why. Several cigars for top brands helps me maintain my enjoyment of the habit. This particular one was excellent, and I'll be ordering a few of these from "My Father's Cigar" next time I order. If you haven't used this way of experimenting, I highly recommend that you do.

I bought this based on the reviews and was expecting more than it actually was. Great appearance and aroma pre-lighting. Notes of coffee / cocoa present. Disappointment started after lighting. Tastes of pepper and chocolate at first, which were great, then whatever flavour the cigar had started to fade away. Uneven burn for the first half of the cigar and it would not stay lit. Had to touch up and relight constantly. I'll have to try another one before I cross this one off my list but so far this one's not for me.

Beautiful presentation, excellent construction. These burn very well for box press, stray burns are minimal and usually self correcting. The cigar has a sturdy but supple feeling to it and I can’t get enough of it. Flavors I notice are an earthy sweetness I can’t really put a name to, some gentle spice in the background and an overall rich tobacco flavor that is relaxing. I do struggle to slow down and not ruin the corona size because it’s very good. The flavors come and go, not boring at all. I might buy a box someday but I find this is a cigar I like to save for a quiet campfire kind of night. If I bought a box I’d just smoke them all in a few weeks.

I just found one of these that had been in my humidor for months. It's a beautiful stick, really an amazingly rich dark brown mottled wrapper. Lots of coffee/cream/earth off the cold draw. But the flavor and aroma just were not there for me, and it had some of the burn issues others have commented on (due to size). It wasn't bad per se, it just didn't stand out -- I'd rather spend $3 more per stick and get the My Father La Opulencia Toro, which delivers a ton of character. Worth a try as YMMV.

I might have gone into this expecting too much given the relatively low price. This is a lot of cigar (huge) -- some folks say the Corona Grande is a better fit between size and flavor. The appearance is first-class, with a beautiful box press. Cold draw was all baker's chocolate/cocoa. But the flavor was a bit to middle of the road meets Peppin spice for me. I tried 2 of these on different days and the results were the same. Of all sticks from my recent "new cigars" (for me run), this was behind the Placencia Alma Fuerte Robusto, the EP Carillo Encore Vallientes, and the Sin Compromiso Selección No. 7 (an equally-large stick, albeit 2x the price). I might try the Corona Grande to see how it fares. Look, this is worth a try, but for me it didn't get there.

Excellent construction, although I don't personally prefer box pressed, it handled well. Cigar was not as robust as I prefer, but nothing ventured nothing gained. However, not being robust as I prefer is not a shortcoming. The draw and light was perfect for about 1.5 inches and then an apparent tobacco leaf stem inhibited the burn. A couple re-lights fixed this. This is a very good cigar, about an 86-88, a little mild for me but maybe not for you. Fine cigar, I may buy more, no systemic or quality issues. Smoke was full and plentiful, a quality cigar!

I was looking forward to trying this cigar and it did not disappoint. I placed these in my humidor for a week and couldn't wait any longer, the flavor was bordering on full body throughout with a bit of harshness coming through toward the last third. The burn was a little uneven with a grayish solid ash, but an enjoyable smoke which i believe will get better with more time in the humidor.

I enjoyed this beautiful cigar overlooking a spectacular fountain show, paired with Saint-Chinian wine. As I opened the wrapper it had a slight alfalfa aroma. The strength was extremely mild, and it needed a lot of maintenance to keep it burning at first. It tunneled for the first third instead of making an ash. The wrapper was supremely done! Burned for just over an hour, though, before it turned bitter. I wish I could have smoked it longer. The flavor was mild and woodsy with no spice at all.

After a lot of anticipation (and industry hype), I finally had the chance to sample the brand new successor to the beloved Flor De Las Antillas, My Father's La Antiguedad. As I have already begun to describe to my customers, this cigar is, essentially, the maduro version of 2012's Cigar of the Year. If you were a fan of the original Flor De Las Antillas, La Antiguedad provides a lot of similar characteristics, with some added spice and body. The first half of the cigar features plenty of wooden notes mixed with an almost berry-like flavor lurking underneath, while the second half cools down and becomes nutty and slightly leathery. No matter what section of the cigar I was on, the taste was rich and delicious. No burn issues, no draw issues. At a very friendly price-point, I can assertively say that this stick is a home run in all aspects, and comes highly, highly recommended. Enjoy.
