Don Pepin Vegas Cubanas Generosos 6 * 50, Box of 20

The Don Pepin Vegas Cubanas cigar line is a classic cigar that was released by My Father Cigars founder Jaime “Don Pepin” Garcia before there was a My Father Cigars brand (or company). Although it rapidly became a popular cigar, the line’s status changed from regular production to limited-edition. In 2017, the Vegas Cubanas was re-issued as a regular release cigar. The cigar’s blend, which consists of a Nicaraguan Corojo rosado wrapper placed over a Nicaraguan binder and filler, has remained the same. Thankfully! Only the cigar’s branding has changed. Handmade in Nicaragua at the My Father Cigars factory, the tobacco used for this mild to medium strength cigar comes from farms owned and operated by the Garcia family.

Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Natural wrapper, also known as Colorado Claro, is light brown in color.
Wrapper
Nicaraguan Corojo
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Nicaraguan Corojo '99 tobacco originated as a wrapper leaf in 1999 in Cuba. The seeds of the original Corojo '99 seed were planted in Ecuador, and these in turn were transplanted to Nicaragua. The leaf is appreciated for its excellent wrapper qualities and spiciness.

Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

I'm on a bit of a tour through Don Pepin's line up. This is my second Vegas Cuban I'm smoking and though I'm sure it has it's fans, it's not my type of cigar. It's oddly spicy, I'm almost tasting mint, keep wondering if Mojito would go well with it. It looks great, burns OK, draw is good but the taste isn't for me. Certainly my least favorite Pepin Gracia's cigar so far.

Good Cigar, nice presentation with a ornate band and a green ribbon at the foot. Rolled right, not too tigh, producing a perfect draw and good smoke volume. Light wrapper nice yet not outstanding. Good balanced flavors of wood amd leather, light, with no transitions. Burns sharp, no corrections needed, producing gray loose ash that drops every couple minutes. Pleasant mid day smoke.

My new favorite cigar from Don Pepin :) the black is also good too. Chased the cuban cohiba taste for awhile and I just re-read the description and now I know why I like it. Surprise!! Thats what they were shooting for. -Medium body and Mild/Medium strength. -First third has a very strong sweet baking spice on the initial draw with a slight white pepper, slight cedar and earth, with an almond/amaretto nutty finish. Slight sour notes too. A white pepper and cinnamon on the retrohale. This is what I have been looking for! Flavor is off the charts. -Second third moves the first third flavors to the back and the unique sourness is more on top. Still very silky smooth and is borderline salted caramel in flavor. More of a toasted almond now, with an more earthy mineral and mild tobacco flavor at this point. Aroma is still sweet and sour. Great! -Last third, a bit more white pepper on the draw with all the other flavors of the first and second third return in a good balance. Good twang now. -Overall the main attraction is the slight sourness and barnyard aroma mixed with the unique baking spices and almond nuttiness, really an amazing blend! Very cubanesque and unique. Your nose will really enjoy this interesting aroma. I have not had a cigar with this amount of sour, baking spice, and slight nutty aroma. Impressive! -This also is not just a plain white pepper smoke like the black and blue Pepins or the Flor de las Antillas also a My Father/Pepin blend. Flavor is off the charts on the Vegas. Its like a combination of the black Pepin and the Flor de las Antillas with a sweet and sour aroma. Marriage made in heaven? -Nice even burn and good snug draw with a notably white ash, unlike the grey black ash of the blue or black Pepin. Nice smoke output too, not too much but just right. -This size was just right to kick back and relax with :)

Tighter draw put out less smoke than average. Milder to start with a touch of pepper and cream grows to spicier and medium towards end. Some off ammonia flavors creep in. Overall a good stick and especially so considering price.

I bought after the high rating from Cigar Afficianado. I really like a flavorful medium bodied cigar which is what this is marketed as. I was disappointed, flavor was just ok and bitter towards the end. Didn’t stay lit and a really uneven burn. The Garcia’s make great cigars but this was disappointing.
