Crowned Heads Jericho Hill is the fourth release of the company, which named the cigar after Johnny Cash's song "Cocaine Blues". The dark wrapper is a Mexican San Andres maduro, and the blend is fully Nicaraguan, resulting in a rich and robust taste that is guaranteed to satisfy veteran smokers looking for deeper flavor. The cigars are made by the Garcia Family at the My Father Cigar factory.

Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

Mexican San Andres Maduro
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Mexican tobacco is very dark and the best leaves can be used as maduro wrappers. San Andres Maduro is a thick, medium bodied dark leaf, also called San Andres Morron. Like Connecticut Broadleaf, San Andres Maduro is stalk cut and used for binder and wrapper.

Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

In honor of Cinco De Mayo, I had to treat myself to a go-to cigar with a Mexican San Andres wrapper that has never failed me since my first experience smoking it a couple of years ago: the Crowned Heads Jericho Hill. Named after the legendary Johnny Cash song, this rustic beauty is made at the My Father factory in Nicaragua. The previously mentioned San Andres wrapper is dark and leathery. Cutting was easy as the box pressed tip has a great angle to cut from. The cold draw is pleasant with a hint of fruit and pepper. When you light and toast the cigar, it flips to a robust hot cocoa. The smoke is thick enough to where you can almost chew it. Halfway through, it stays pretty robust, but the smoke thins a little and flavor still remains a bold heaviness with cream. It is almost like they blended a tiramisu. Even with more than half smoked, the wrapper still gives you an oily cocoa powder taste. Reaching the band, it starts to produce more smoke like at the beginning. Now the flavor has become more nutmeg and vanilla, which means the strength is starting to pick up. Taking the band off and puffing away, the flavors become more subtle but still has the robust thick smoke and it becomes very hard to put down. And of course, the strength creeps up and bites you a little at the nub. All in all, this is a fantastic cigar that I could enjoy while sipping my Modelo and cleaning the backyard. If you like 'em rich and robust, I promise that the Jericho Hill will not disappoint.

Smoked this beauty right after the Jack Brown and trying to decide which one is going onto my favorites list. Maybe both. The San Andres wrapper and Nicaraguan fillers make for a woody earthy and spicy delight. Great taste aroma and draw. Smoked it with a Jack at hand and cocaine blues and little Sadie by my two favorite musicians Cash and Dylan on repeat to match the theme and the result was pure bliss. I was looking for a cigar to go with my four kicks capa and discovered the Jericho hills which honor one of the fav musicians and songs of the cigar makers and myself, cocaine blues by the man in black himself, and I had to try it. Amazing cigar with an awesome taste and aroma provided by the San Andres wrapper and Nicaraguan fillers. The 5 by 56 box press fits the mouth perfectly. Earthy and spicy with a full draw. Gonna try the Willy lee next and can't wait. Found a new favorite in this gem.

At a <$10 price, this is a steal. It is a medium-bodied, consistent, no-nonsense stick that (a) looks great (firm box press) and (b) tastes great to the nub. Cold-draw was raisin cake, with consistent baker's chocolate / cocoa notes all through the transitions. While it may lack the complexity of similar top-shelf maduros like the Padron 1926 #9 or the Plasencia Alma Fuerte Robusto, it offers amazingly solid quality at less than half their prices. Will buy again.

The aroma from this stick when I took it out the cellophane cued me in on what was ahead; a very bold, rich and tasty smoke. Earth, black and red pepper, cocoa, leather, wood, fruit, citrus, aged tobacco sweetness, cream, all coalesced into one smooth, decadent, intoxicating flavor.

I am huge fan of crown heads for starters and my favorite cigar in their line so far was the Buckeye Land. Jericho hill was a great smoke with great aromas and flavors coming through. I really enjoyed the San Andres wrapper on this one. Bold, spicy and packs a good little punch which is right in my wheel house of cigars.

This stick has become my current favorite...and not just because the line is named in tribute to one of my long time favorites, the man in black, Mr. Johnny Cash. I have read that the owner of Crowned Heads, Jon Huber, described these sticks as being "five inch blocks of chocolate with red pepper" and I would have a difficult time topping that description with my own wording. They are sweet, spicy, and just delicious all the way through. Construction is excellent courtesy of the Garcia family. The draw on this vitola is perfect...Padron-like if you know what I mean. The draw on the LBV size was a bit restrictive for my tastes, but just right on this one. Grab a decent Belgian ale and fire one of these up on a sunny afternoon and all of your troubles will fade away...temporarily at least. Cheers!

This is a cigar with personality, it looks fantastic. the wrapper it's rough, strong and dark. My first impression: Cocoa and hints of nuts with a bit of spice, changing in the second third to become very earthy and sweet. Some spice coming back in the last third. Nice cool draw, perfect burning line and a gorgeous ash. Complex, full flavor, medium plus in strength but not overpowering. What a good smoke!!
