As a self-proclaimed lover of broadleaf wrappers, there are certain brands that I simply KNOW will deliver in this field, and Crowned Heads is at the top of that list. With many delicious broadleaf offerings over the years, I was excited to try the Tennessee Waltz due to its limited and exclusive nature. In case you don't know, the Tennessee Waltz is normally available only in the state of Tennessee, with select retailers having the option to sell limited stock if they are lucky. Neptune happens to be one of the lucky ones! Adorned with only a bright orange footer band, this dark stick begins exactly as you may think, spicy and bold. Not long after, I started to detect notes of creamy citrus, which was a welcome surprise and a perfect compliment to the rich nature of the broadleaf. Nicaraguan binder and filler ensured a tasty profile that had notes of pepper and leather, with the leather really picking up towards the end of the experience. All in all, if you want a damn good broadleaf smoke, and don't feel like taking a trip to Tennessee, place an order for the Crowned Heads Tennessee Waltz ASAP, because this is one blend that is not available all too often, and it's certainly worthy of your humidor. Pair with a good bourbon and enjoy! Picked on 02/18/2024

Kristoff is a brand that I try to introduce to as many people as possible, mainly because I feel like they deserve more recognition than they sometimes seem to get. One of the most overlooked maduros on the market is the Kristoff Maduro. I smoked it for the umpteenth time recently, and I decided to give it some well-deserved attention! First thing's first, this is a great looking cigar, in my opinion, with a simple brown band adorning a super oily Brazilian maduro wrapper. A pigtail crowns the head of this stick, and a shaggy foot lets you know you're in for a tasty treat. When lit, the smoke output was generous, and the aroma of sweet molasses filled the room. I definitely detected notes of chocolate not long into the session, with a subtle yet savory touch of spice on the finish thanks to the Nicaraguan filler included alongside the otherwise Dominican-dominant blend. Leathery notes made their way into the fray from time to time, and the ash was flaky yet under control. I decided to skip the cutter and simply twisted off the aforementioned pigtail, which gave me a more than acceptable draw. Burn was slow and straight, and I love the aroma this thing gives off! Full-bodied but smooth, I think this is a great choice for relaxing after dinner. If you have not tried a Kristoff yet, please do yourself a favor and give their Maduro line a chance, particularly if you're already a maduro fan. If you don't think it's spectacular, then maybe you're more of a Connecticut kinda guy... ;) Picked on 12/02/2023

Attention, patriots! While there are many cigar brands that reference and honor the wonderful U.S. of A., I can't think of another that is quite so on the nose. The CAO America Potomac is a stylish cigar sporting a dual wrapper consisting of both Connecticut Shade AND Connecticut Broadleaf, which gives it a great look as well as taste. A beautiful red, white and blue band adorns the cigar, and a starry footer band that is home to what else other than a bald eagle. Testing the dry draw, I immediately detected a strong chocolate note that got me excited to officially light the fireworks. I certainly cannot say I was disappointed; the CAO America Potomac delivered excellent flavor right off the bat, with that chocolate note coming to life and adding a nice touch of coffee to boot! After some time, cedar entered the fray, with some subtle nuttiness on the retro hale. I was also impressed with the easy, open draw I experienced, and the Potomac also kept a strong ash until forcefully removed. There was no issue with burn either, as it maintained even until hitting the band. Towards the end, I have to admit the flavor intensity died down a bit, but I just see that as a nice way to finish this otherwise medium-to-full bodied treat. Whether you live in the Land of the Free or not, be sure to enjoy this delicious cigar proudly. 'Muricaaa! Picked on 09/17/2023

Wait... what's this? A premium full-bodied cigar by a Class A top-tier manufacturer for under 10 dollars?? Somebody pinch me. In a world where everything seems to be increasing in price, Oliva manages to continue producing exceptional cigars for a price that won't have you damning our economy. The Oliva Serie O Maduro Robusto is a rich stick that features a mouth-watering Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper sitting on top of Nicaraguan binder and filler. Simple formula, sure, but EFFECTIVE no doubt. Upon lighting, I detected a nice mix of sweet and spicy, and that definitely set the tone for the rest of my time with this robusto. I won't try and elaborate too much with "notes of this and that"... you can probably guess that this is not the most complex smoke in the world, and that's quite alright! There is a time and a place for a solid, straightforward blend, and this Serie O Maduro more than delivers on that objective. Bold yet smooth, many people often forget that the famous Serie G, O, and V lines from Oliva are offered in maduro versions, and they demand just as much respect as their lighter counterparts. Impeccable construction (along with a nice strong ash as the cherry on top) completes this worthwhile addition to any maduro fan's humidor. Enjoy with a stout IPA or a quality rum for maximum flavor impact. Feel free to also tell your wallet I said "You're welcome" :) Picked on 08/09/2023

Drew Estate always seems to hit home runs, and sometimes, they will release special versions of their popular blends to even greater success and acclaim than the original. Such is the case with the Undercrown Sungrown Dojo Dogma. This box-pressed beauty is squared-off, unlike its rounder cousins, and I believe that that is the reason for its different taste profile. The strength somehow feels amped up versus the original, bordering more on the full-bodied side rather than medium, and the notes found also were more pronounced here. Normally I'm not too fond of spicy/peppery cigars, but the Dojo Dogma provides a classy touch of it, just enough to make your mouth water and take another puff. I also found delicious notes of earth and cedar, with a touch of graham cracker towards the end. Smoke output is tremendous, as per usual with Drew Estate offerings. Construction was great, with an even burn the whole way (albeit with an admittedly flakey ash). Made in Nicaragua, the Undercrown Sungrown Dojo Dogma is a super solid stick that will satisfy even the most picky of smokers. Enjoy with a spiced rum or a cognac to really enhance the natural sweetness of the retro hale even more. Cheers! Picked on 06/04/2023

If you're a keen smoker that's been paying attention, you may have noticed that Punch has released multiple cigars with an Asian theme in recent years. These blends honor the Chinese Lunar New Year! Egg Roll, Kung Pao, Chop Suey, Fu Manchu, and now... the SPRING Roll is here. Just in time for its namesake season, the Punch Spring Roll comes packaged in an endearing Chinese take-out presentation, signaling the return of an already beloved line of smokes by the respected brand. Sporting a shaggy foot, upon lighting the Spring Roll you will immediately indulge in the wonderful mix of Dominican, Mexican, USA, and even Colombian tobaccos. A Connecticut Broadleaf binder holds it all together and a somewhat rough-looking Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper tops it off, making this one extra scrumptious stick. So how's it taste, you ask? DELICIOUS, I say. The Spring Roll is exceptionally smooth, one of the smoothest experiences in recent memory, even. There is not one bit of spice in this blend, which was a pleasant surprise to someone like me that likes a potent but never spicy cigar. Notes of cedar and subtle graham cracker take over almost the entire duration, and the strength falls somewhere directly in the 'medium' category. Did I say this cigar is smooth?? At only 4 1/2 inches, this one is perfect for an after-dinner dessert or for chatting with a friend on your balcony like I did. Paired with a Reyka Screwdriver, I was in heaven and couldn't believe this stogie was only five bucks and change! Smooth as butter, and more flavorful than any buffet you could imagine. Smooth!! I still remember how the cigar world exploded when AJ Fernandez released the original New World in the early 2010's, followed by the white-labeled Connecticut New World shortly after. Both were juggernauts in their fields not only in taste, but in value as well. I am happy to say that AJ can seemingly do no wrong, as the New World Cameroon continues to impress smokers everywhere! Using a light brown Cameroon leaf on top of Nicaraguan innards, this green-hued beauty starts off with an amazing dry draw of honey graham cracker. After lighting, I detected some slightly fruity notes, and the draw continues to be excellent. Burning perfectly straight the entire time, I notice that while there is still some pepper in the background, it is noticeably less than in other AJ Fernandez offerings. As I round the final lap, I'm impressed by the sweet tobacco notes I've found throughout, and discover some spicy cedar notes at the very finish. To sum everything up, the New World Cameroon Toro is "pound for pound" in the Top 5 Best Values in the Cameroon class, and probably even lands in the Top 10 in overall medium-bodied bargains on the market today. I'm not kidding, try one if you haven't yet, because this gem won't remain hidden forever... Pair with rum for maximum impact! Picked on 02/07/2023

Halloween may have come and gone, but that doesn't mean there can't still be ghosts afoot! The Gurkha Ghost has long been my favorite Gurkha entry, and since a lot of people don't seem to know about its spooky existence, I figured I'd help shed some light on this beast. With a nearly black (and super oily) Brazilian maduro wrapper and holographic black and silver band, the Ghost is a dark and mysterious stick. Here is the first thing you need to know: do NOT light up the Gurkha Ghost in a place where people may turn their nose up to cigar smoking - the Ghost emits smoke like a dang chimney. Rivaled only by Drew Estate's offerings, thick chewy smoke fills the room before long, and borderline obnoxiously as well. This smoke is accompanied by a musty yet favorable aroma. Once brought to life, the Ghost gives notes of leather and oak, with a bit of pepper at the start. The wrapper being as thick and leathery as it is causes the Ghost to burn slowly, prolonging its stay. The word 'musty' comes to mind while smoking, and I realize that it may sound like a negative term, but I really do mean it in all the best ways! Some chocolate notes appear halfway through, and I found it to be a rich full-bodied stick from start to finish. Pair it with a Guinness for a frighteningly good combo. Bottom line: The Gurkha Ghost is great, and often overlooked/underrated. If you're not too scared to face your fear, it might be time to give it a try... Picked on 12/11/2022

Okay, listen... I'm not one of 'those' smokers that are too cool to smoke a Connecticut Shade wrapper. I won't deny that my palate normally caters more towards fuller-bodied sticks, but there's always a time and a place for the lighter stuff! I have a somewhat short list of favorite go-to Connecticut-wrapped cigars, and proudly included in this list is the Partagas Cortado. A newer offering from the brand, this is not only the first Partagas to sport the aforementioned CT Shade wrapper, but also the first stick of theirs to hail from Nicaragua. Contrasting beautifully against the elegant red, white and gold band, the Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade leaf glistens with a buttery sheen that is just asking to be set ablaze. Once combusted, the sweet aroma of walnuts fills the room. The awesome thing about this cigar is that the filler tobaccos are quite the quality mix - two different types of Nicaraguan tobacco, a bit of Honduran, and even a touch of Mexican to top it off nicely. The result is a super tasty, mild to medium strength smoke that is absolutely perfect to start your day with. After a quick and subtle white pepper introduction, notes of nuts and cedar are prominent from start to finish. There is not a whole lot of complexity to be found throughout, but that's not really the point here. The Partagas Cortado is a prime candidate for a daily stick that won't ever let you down, with reliable, consistent construction from General Cigar Co. Even burn line all the way down, and a flawless draw to boot. Pair this one with either a spiced rum or an espresso to really amplify the experience even further. Yeah, I know... it might not be the same Partagas your dad used to smoke, but, trust me - don't knock it til' you try it! Picked on 10/30/2022

Plasencia is a name that has garnered a lot of popularity in the last handful of years. Formerly the "unsung heroes" of the industry, the company has been manufacturing tobacco for countless other brands throughout the decades, and it wasn't until the release of the Alma series in 2017 that most smokers became aware of their mighty presence. One of their more unique offerings is the Alma Fuerte Hexagon, which as you may guess, is box-pressed into a 6-sided cigar with more edges and straight lines than a Lamborghini. Truly a spectacle to behold (and hold), the Hexagon shape is definitely a conversation starter, and it also allows you to smoke the 60 ring gauge easier than if it were a traditional round shape. The original Alma Fuerte Hexagon was a stronger blend than the one I am talking about today, the Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro, which swaps out the Nicaraguan Maduro wrapper for a Colorado Claro leaf and the black band for a green one. While both are extraordinary, the Colorado Claro is noticeably smoother, with a steady medium-body strength as opposed to the more full-bodied original. Notes of cedar and figs splash onto the palate upon first puff, with notes of honey and graham cracker making their subtle appearance after the halfway mark. And I'm not entirely sure if I expected a better or worse burn due to the insane shape of this stick, but I'm happy to report that it burned just as evenly as one could hope for. Some may be a bit weary of the price of this elegant beauty, but when I say that the Plasencia Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro Hexagon is special and worth every penny, I mean it! Enjoy with good company, and paired with a quality single malt Scotch, there's few things better... Picked on 09/25/2022

As someone who works at the retail level, it's impossible to ignore the recent resurgence in popularity of lanceros. Much like vinyl records are experiencing a come back, lanceros are also now hip again! This is great news, as I've always thought lanceros don't get enough love. I've decided to smoke the Herrera Esteli Broadleaf Lancero, as I have been a big fan of the other vitolas of this esteemed brand. This was my first experience with the Broadleaf Lancero, and to no surprise, I found it to be a flavor bomb from the very first puff. Alright, I know what you may be thinking... HOW IS THE DRAW?? That seems to be the cause of concern regarding lanceros, and I'll be honest, I have experienced some tight draws on some of them before. However, this Herrera Lancero had zero issue with the draw, and gave me a nice and open pull right off the bat, without having to wait for it to 'warm up' or 'loosen'. With a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper on top of a Brazilian Mata Fina binder, I expected this smoke to be full-bodied and tasty, and while tasty, I found the strength to be more of a strong medium (not a bad thing!) Notes of leather and cocoa dominated the experience, with a subtle hint of underlying spice. The construction was on-point, with no issues regarding burn or turning off, and the ash was bright white and strong. If you're looking to be part of the Cool Kid Club, pick up a lancero next time you're shopping for a new smoke, and if you want a quality stick, look no further than the Herrera Esteli Broadleaf Lancero. Regarding cigar selection, I've always said it's good to branch out and try different things. In order to practice what I preach, I opted to venture out of my comfort zone in not one, but TWO ways. The Nub Cameroon 466BPT is a charming little cigar made by Oliva that features box-pressed construction along with a torpedo tip (you now may be able to figure out what the BPT in its name stands for). The reason that this is out of my norm is due to the wide 66 ring gauge and the sharp torpedo tip. Due to personal preference, I usually avoid cigars with a gauge bigger than 56, and torpedos are not my preferred vitola because sometimes the draw can leave something to be desired. However, I could not resist the adorably unique size and shape of this Nub - it truly stands out on the shelf. Once cut, I attempted a dry draw and was ecstatic to find that the pull was extremely open, simultaneously noticing a note reminiscent of toffee. Once lit, I was chucking clouds like a dragon! I can't recall the last time a cigar gave me such a nice and easy open draw, and I'm also very impressed by the flavor from start to finish. Coffee, cedar, and even the occasional graham cracker found its way into the blend, and the Cameroon wrapper gave a deliciously subtle sweetness to the retro hale. I have also officially changed my feelings towards torpedos and their draw, although I feel the only reason the fat ring gauge didn't bother me was ironically BECAUSE of the sloping torpedo tip. My only knock to this HIGHLY enjoyable cigar is that it's gone after only about 35-40 minutes. Oh well... more reason to buy a box ;] Picked on 06/29/2022

There are certain cigars that I feel are, for lack of a better word, famous. No matter what shop you visit, or magazine you open, you're likely to see these popular "fan-favorites", and the CAO Brazilia is one of those examples. If you've been smoking for more than a week, you've probably seen this bright green and yellow band before, and for good reason - it's excellent! I decided to try the box-pressed version since I've already smoked the other traditional vitolas, and I was not ready for what followed. In my HUMBLE opinion, this box-pressed entry is superior to the rest, with a smoothness the others don't quite offer. I remember the Brazilia always being a potent full-body smoke, and while this one didn't lack body in the slightest, it was noticeably more forgiving that its rounder relatives. I was greeted with earthy notes immediately upon lighting, and I'll say it now to refrain from sounding like a broken record... the earth notes are present from beginning to end, in full force. After some cedar notes appeared an inch or two in, I was pleased with the sudden sweetness that overcame the experience about halfway through. I don't recall the other Brazilias being so smooth and sweet, but they thoroughly compliment the rich earthy flavors that are otherwise predominant in this floral blend. Perfect draw, immaculate burn... there's not much more to say about the CAO Brazilia that hasn't already been stated ad nauseum, so I'll end with this: if you have not yet smoked a CAO Brazilia, what are you waiting for?? It's a bona fide, requisite classic at this point, and the box-pressed iteration is even more special if you ask me ;] Picked on 05/06/2022

As a brand that has decades of loyal followers and an unwavering sense for quality, La Gloria Cubana should need no introduction to the seasoned smoker. The latest release from the esteemed company, the La Gloria Cubana Criollo de Oro launched late last year and has been making waves with its gorgeous presentation and the fabled 'Criollo de Oro' tobacco, which is essentially a mixture of Criollo and Pelo de Oro. When I first lit the Criollo de Oro Toro, I was greeted with instant flavor, with notes of spicy earth and an almost graham cracker-like taste. I was pleased with the burn, as it stayed perfectly even throughout the experience, and I only needed to relight once (which was entirely my fault due to in-depth conversation). Halfway through, all spice notes had all but gone away, and I was left with a traditional flavor profile carrying nutty notes of cedar. Not much later, I encountered notes of honey make an appearance as well! The Criollo de Oro Toro starts and ends with a balanced medium-body strength, which is nice since some cigars amp up or down as you smoke. This one is perfect for when you want no surprises. Consistency is key and the LGC has that in spades. With its use of Dominican, Nicaraguan, Honduran and USA Connecticut tobaccos, this cigar is all over the map, and sees a delicious bouquet of flavors as a result. I've said it before and I'll say it again: if you know me at all, you know that I don't smoke Connecticut-wrapped cigars too often. That being said, it's always a good idea to have a few in your rotation to keep the palate fresh and to have something for when you simply want an easy, breakfast smoke. When I saw the Recluse Amadeus White Robusto, I was enamored with its simple yet elegant design, featuring very sharp box-pressed construction and a white and silver band paired with a shiny silver footer band. The cigar felt smooth to the touch, with minimal veins. Once cut and lit, I was pleased with the immediate cedar notes I encountered. Almost as immediately, I noted that the Amadeus White was going to be a super light smoke with very little body, BUT, that is not a bad thing! As I stated earlier, sometimes you haven't eaten a meal or are just wanting a light cigar to throw some smoke around with good company. In that aspect, the Amadeus delivers wholeheartedly. I cannot stress this enough: from start to finish, the Amadeus remained truly, truly mild. Smoke output was generous, and the smoke itself was fluffy and aromatic. The strength, however, was virtually non-existent. This was a welcome attribute, keeping in consideration that you are looking for a friendly cigar when you pick this one up. The woody notes found at the start remained constant throughout, and notes of almond creeped their way in before long to join the party. All in all, the Recluse Amadeus White is a wonderful way to enjoy a velvety smooth experience front-to-back, and is priced as such to where your wallet won't hate you either. I wanted to smoke something a bit different recently, so I took the opportunity to enjoy a brand that I have put on the back burner for long enough - Toscano! Admittedly, this rough-looking stogie won't win any beauty contests, but as with humans, it's what's INSIDE that counts. Celebrating the 150th anniversary of Italy's founding, the Toscano Nobile is hand rolled in Lucca, Italy, and continues the famed rustic vitola shape that the brand is known for. If you're new to Toscano, let me share some knowledge: tradition dictates cutting the cigar in half and either sharing that half with a friend or saving it for later. Since I was feeling particularly greedy at the time, I elected to do neither, and I lit up the Nobile as-is and began puffing away. Composed of tobacco from both Italy and the United States, this thin perfecto had an immediate smoky and charred flavor that made me make sure I had a glass of water nearby. Although some classify this cigar as a stronger smoke, I felt as though it maintained a balanced medium strength throughout, and while it certainly had an intense retrohale, it was simultaneously smooth and enjoyable at the same time. Front to back I encountered notes of oak, hickory, and even subtle bits of chocolate. The smoke output was minimal (mostly due to a slightly tight draw), yet chewy and super aromatic. If I could turn back time, I would probably follow tradition and cut the Toscano in half, as I feel that that would improve the draw on this otherwise delightful stick. A good Kentucky bourbon or a black cup o' Joe would also elevate the experience enough to exclaim, "Ciao, bella!" Picked on 10/05/2021

I will neither confirm nor deny that I enjoy a nice drink from time to time, but if you saw the kiddish smile that crossed my face when I discovered El Borracho, perhaps you could make a solid assumption. Made in Nicaragua, this box-pressed beauty had my attention as soon as I laid eyes on its super toothy chocolate-brown wrapper and realized that it was Mexican San Andres (a personal favorite). Between its name and the type of wrapper it wears, I was already 99% sold. After cutting it and finding a subtle cocoa powder note in the cold draw, I fired up my lighter and began drinki-, err, smoking. El Borracho delivers exactly what you would expect from a dark Nicaraguan smoke, which is rich full-bodied flavor and a spicy undertone. El Borracho luckily is not a pepper bomb like some others however, instead its San Andres wrapper contributes leathery notes of cocoa and earth throughout, alongside a cedary retrohale. Towards the end, I detected subtle notes of sweet cinnamon enter the mix, with an oily finish. It's also worth mentioning that not once, not twice, but THREE times I had to put the Borracho down for 5-7 minutes, and never did it go out on me. Smoke output was generous, and the draw was excellent. All in all, I am very impressed with El Borracho, and it will likely become a mainstay in my humidor. I have always enjoyed any cigar blended by tobacco guru Steve Saka, and it seems I have apparently (unknowingly) saved the best for last! After making my rounds with all the rest of his Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust catalog, the only stone still left unturned was the Todos Las Dias, and I am absolutely enamored with what I discovered. The cigar is a handsome one, with a modern black and silver band -and matching footer band- adorning a chocolate colored wrapper. The dry draw contained subtle hints of hay and honey, and upon lighting it was off to the races. The first half of the Todos Las Dias was impressive enough, with a super smooth medium body profile and excellent draw. But I will whole-heartedly exclaim that the real beauty of this cigar undoubtedly lies in its second half. Once I reached the midway point, the flavor AND strength received a noticeable boost, with delicious notes of earth and cocoa dominating the experience, and a semblance of what I can best describe as chili powder lingering in the background. I've heard that this cigar can be quite powerful, but I personally felt that while it was certainly bold, it never became very 'strong'. The flavor, on the other hand, was out of this world, and I found myself burning my fingers trying to smoke it down to nothing. Burn was flawless, and aroma was wonderful. Overall, the Todos Las Dias is an astounding smoke from Steve Saka and his Dunbarton brand, and I can't recommend it enough. Going forward, my humidor will never be without it. One of my favorite things to do is try out cigars that are relatively unknown, or overlooked. There are a lot of hidden gems out there that are only found by those smokers that are curiously open-minded, and sometimes those cigars are the ones that feel the most rewarding post-smoke. I've encountered just that with the El Viejo Continente Maduro Lancero. As a fan of lanceros in general, this Mexican San Andres covered black beauty was even more appealing to me from its spot on the shelf, and I eagerly twisted its pigtail cap off and began lighting. My first impression was regarding the draw; wonderfully open and easy. It wasn't too long before I started to detect the delicious notes of cocoa and leather that are common in Mexican wrappers, and I was in heaven. After the first third was nothing but ash, I noticed the strength of the El Viejo Continente had remained at a steady medium-body since the start, which was a welcome feature considering there are times when one would want the rich flavor of a dark maduro but without the punch in the face often associated with it. As I progressed towards the end of the slender stick, the notes of cocoa and leather intertwined with a tasty white pepper that enhanced the blend perfectly, concluding things with a sophisticated finish that had my palate very satisfied. The El Viejo Continente Maduro Lancero is not a complex smoke, in fact it's fairly one-dimensional, BUT, don't for one second write that off as a bad thing. There is a time and a place for when you want a simple, solid, and super enjoyable cigar that delivers bold taste, and as luck would have it, the El Viejo Continente will have your wallet just as happy as your taste buds. Yesterday was International Women's Day, and in honor of this, I lit up the Micallef Migdalia, named after Migdalia Sanchez, a truly important figure in the premium cigar world. Migdalia represents decades of Cuban tradition and heritage with expert knowledge on everything tobacco, heavily involved in the industry ever since receiving her tobacconist certification at only 17 years of age. Her involvement in this eponymous Micallef blend showcases her knack for producing exceptional cigars, and it is with great pleasure that I get the chance to indulge in the fruits of her labor. The Micallef Migdalia carries a striking San Andres Habano wrapper on top of a Sumatra binder, containing both Nicaraguan and Dominican filler that have been meticulously married to offer a tasty blend that wowed me from the very first puff. The Migdalia starts off with some prominent cedar notes along with an undertone of hay. Not before long, an earthy sweetness appears, and by the time you reach the middle, a delicious note of roasted coffee becomes the focal point. At this point, I'm at a loss for words as to how a cigar can be so complex and satisfying. As I enter the final third, a sense of figs and berries hits my palate, and once I remove the band and hit the final stretch, a last minute one-two combo of vanilla and leather finish things off with authority. The Micallef Migdalia is medium in strength with an easy and open draw and an even burn throughout. It's not often I'm speechless after smoking a cigar, but I cannot express enough how good the Micallef Migdalia is. This will be one of my go-to sticks when I want a complex offering that shows how a good blend can change and evolve as you smoke. Do yourself a favor and try one, and see how quickly you deem it box-worthy. I am still stunned! I've always known that some things are greatly improved with a woman's touch, but Migdalia Sanchez proves this in spades. Cheers to the Sisters of the Leaf! Picked on 03/09/2021

For whatever reason, I've neglected to smoke the Hiram & Solomon Master Mason until just now, and boy, I should follow my intuition more closely (and sooner). Upon lighting, I found deep notes of leather and chocolate, typical of a maduro Nicaraguan offering. A small hint of black pepper was also noticeable, which I found opened up a bit as the cigar progressed. Strength hovered around medium for the first third, and picked up considerably by the second third. Leather notes remained for the duration of the experience, with the chocolatey flavors eventually evolving into more of a roasted coffee note, wonderfully complimenting each other. Spice and strength were in full force during the final third, but somehow the cigar never became overwhelming, retaining a smooth richness until I was burning my fingers. If you're searching for a bold smoke with a simple yet super effective and delicious taste profile, light up a Hiram & Solomon Master Mason and you'll be in great company. Enjoy with Scotch or a dark porter. Cheers! Picked on 02/08/2021

If you've followed my Staff Picks for any amount of time, it should come as no shock that Connecticut Shade cigars are not my usual choice. I can certainly appreciate a nice Connecticut smoke, but as picky as I tend to be, they're not typically in frequent rotation as I find that many are a tad light for my tastes. Pretentiousness aside, I'm here to tell you about the San Lotano Requiem Connecticut Torpedo, and how I've found another addition to my short list of go-to Connecticut Shade cigars that I will happily enjoy when the mild mood strikes. This Nicaraguan-made stick is brought to you by AJ Fernandez and contains a blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers, a Honduran binder and a golden Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper. This complex recipe creates a flavorful and smooth mild to medium smoke that is ready to hit the spot at absolutely any time of the day. Starting off with a slight burst of pepper which doesn't overstay its welcome, it quickly evolves into a nutty and buttery experience which lasts the majority of the experience. Halfway through I detected notes of cedar and cream, and towards the end I was re-introduced to those slight spice notes I tasted upon lighting. Overall, the San Lotano Requiem Connecticut is a fantastic light cigar that doesn't skimp on flavor and luckily won't break the bank either! Pick up this overlooked gem and be prepared to enjoy thoroughly. Picked on 01/25/2021

I've said it before and I'll say it again: most of my favorite cigars seem to hail from the country of Nicaragua, and it's a trend that continues here with the Davidoff Nicaragua Box Pressed Toro. As a brand that is primarily known for their Dominican offerings, I was a bit curious going into this one, thinking that it would no doubt be a GOOD smoke, but HOW good was the question. I'm happy to report that this cigar not only met my expectations, but exceeded them tremendously and has found itself a home as one of my new favorites. There is something to be said about a cigar that is delicious upon first puff, a rarity indeed, but this Davidoff provides just that. Literally while lighting the cigar, I was inundated with rich flavor, a glorious mixture of pepper and cream, and it wasn't long until it blossomed into a tasty bouquet of coffee, cocoa, and leather notes. The aroma was also something to behold, filling the room with an enchanting allure that only fine tobacco can produce. My one and only complaint would lie in the burn - my cigar needed to be touched up on more than one (or two) occasions as a result of a wonky burn line. Besides that small detail, I would consider the Davidoff Nicaragua Box Pressed Toro to be quite a perfect smoke, and worthy of even the most picky of humidors. Enjoy with a coffee or a glass of aged Scotch on the rocks. Picked on 10/24/2020

Every year, boutique smokers everywhere look forward to the latest iteration of Crowned Head's limited Las Calaveras blend. Pretty much since its introduction in 2014, I've been eagle-eyed while waiting for their annual arrival at Neptune, being that I am always impressed with the release. For 2020, the limited cigar sports a purple and gold band, with a gorgeous Ecuadorian Habano wrapper that encases premium Nicaraguan components. Upon removing the golden footer band, I cut my Las Calaveras and giddily began lighting it up. After a small blast of pepper in the beginning, it wasn't long before I was smack dab in the middle of Flavor Town. Creamy notes of cedar, earth, and almonds were prominent, with the spice subsiding and only showing up again periodically, albeit at the most opportune moments. Towards the end, the Las Calaveras became quite leathery, and rounded the final lap with more earthy tones and a naturally sweet finish. Overall, I would rate the strength as in-between medium and full. As always, the burn was even, no relights were necessary, and the draw was beyond excellent. It amazes me how this line consistently gets it right even after experimenting with various blends year by year - a true testament to Crowned Head's expertise. There were only 1,000 boxes of each vitola made for the entire world, so make sure you stock up on this scarily impressive offering before they're gone. I am always on the look-out for this series, and I firmly believe every smoker should be as well. Picked on 07/12/2020

With all of the numerous options available to smokers these days, it's inevitable that some truly exceptional cigars may not get the spotlight they inherently deserve. The Tabernacle, made by Foundation Cigar Co., is an example of one of these criminally overlooked sticks. Brought to you by Nick Melillo, he's quick to state that Connecticut Broadleaf is more than just tobacco for him - it's something sacred. This is apparent immediately upon laying eyes on this handsome specimen, with it's intensely dark and toothy Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, so oily it almost appears to have a glittery sheen in certain lighting. A black and gold band featuring King of Abyssinia Hailie Selassie completes the elegant look. Enough talk... on to the experience! It took no more than 3 puffs to know that this would become one of my all-time favorite cigars of recent years. Underneath the aforementioned Broadleaf wrapper, you find a Mexican San Andres Negro binder, and under that, fillers from the Nicaraguan regions of Esteli and Jalapa, along with the Honduran regions of Jamastra. These select viso and ligero fillers are from the upper primings of the plant, equating to a rich and bold smoke that has no equal. Notes of leather, oak, and cocoa flood the palate throughout, with hints of spicy earth appearing time to time. The Tabernacle is indeed a potent smoke, and not for the faint of heart! This meaty blend is best enjoyed after a hearty dinner, preferably with a generous pour of your favorite Scotch or spiced rum. If you enjoy a well-constructed, aromatically pleasing, and (most importantly) DELICIOUS full-bodied smoke, please do yourself a favor and pick up a Tabernacle. Just don't forget to share the wealth and tell your friends who may not yet be aware of this glorious cigar. My humidor is never without a few. Picked on 06/25/2020

The cigar industry can be quite the lion's den. Everyone is in friendly competition with each other, conjuring up impressive packaging and trying to create a cigar better than the last. Certain individuals have earned an esteemed pedigree throughout the years in regards to releasing quality smokes, and one of them is undoubtedly tobacco guru Steve Saka. The mastermind behind the revered Liga Privada line (among others), Saka knows a thing or two about cigar blends, and the Muestra de Saka Exclusivo easily continues that reputation. Made at the Joya de Nicaragua factory in Esteli, this simple looking stick arrives in a classy wooden coffin and sports only a small yellow footer band at its end. Upon lighting, I instantly enjoyed a sweet earthy flavor that later opened up and gave way to nutty notes about halfway through. Some may classify the cigar as full-bodied, but I myself found the strength to hover around medium. This may be partially due to the smoothness that this stick exhibits, another Steve Saka trademark. Approaching the end, the nutty earthy notes remained while introducing a slight citrus flavor that gave the experience the proverbial cherry on top. Of course, as expected, construction was impeccable and no relights were needed. I whole-heartedly recommend the Muestra de Saka Exclusivo to any smoker looking for a premium cigar that is guaranteed to satisfy even the pickiest of palates. Pair with a nice Scotch, and ENJOY. Cigar smokers in a hurry sometimes find themselves with a dilemma at hand -- try and race through a favorite stick at the expense of rushing the meant-to-be relaxing indulgence, chucking the literal piece of art halfway through, or alternatively, selecting from the stressfully small catalog of tasty, high quality cigars that won't consume more than a half hour of your precious time. Throughout the years, I've found myself constantly coming back to my favorite little smoke when I don't have too many minutes to burn: meet the Tatuaje Verocu No. 5. This petite cigar is made in Nicaragua by boutique giant Tatuaje, and is unbelievably delicious. Boasting a dark brown Ecuadorian Habano wrapper on top of premium Nicaraguan binder and filler, this medium-bodied long-filler beauty is made with the exact same benchmarks as its bigger brothers, and you will be hard-pressed to find another cigar that packs as much remarkable flavor into such a small package... particularly with the same expert construction and impeccable burn that normally is reserved for more, ahem, endowed examples. Rich notes of cocoa, coffee, leather, and just a splash of spice round out the experience, which is a delightfully convenient 25-30 minutes. If you don't believe the Tatuaje Verocu No.5 can be every bit as satisfying as a full-size stogie, I have 7 words for you: Don't knock it 'til you try it. You can thank me later! Picked on 10/26/2019

It's no secret that Drew Estate is responsible for some of the most acclaimed and sought after premium cigars in the world, and the Liga Privada brand is not only one of them, but one of my personal all-time favorite smokes. And thus, I was extremely excited to light up the new Liga Privada Unico Serie Nasty Fritas. This cone-shaped little stogie has a charmingly rustic look to it, and is part of the renowned Unico line of Drew Estate's catalog, which feature specially selected aged tobacco based largely on the vitola at hand. Eager to begin, I forgoed the cutter and simply twisted off the pigtail cap at the cigar head and started giddily torching the shaggy foot. Immediately, I was greeted with a noticeable yet manageable pepper blast that lasted for the first couple of puffs, that led way to a rich profile consisting of notes of dried earth, leather, molasses, and oak. The slick USA Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper has a beautiful oily sheen to it that hinted at the boldness this cigar was about to provide, and in no way was I disappointed. I would classify the Nasty Fritas as medium to full-bodied during the first two thirds, with it picking up strength closer to the finish line. Underlying pepper remained for the entire duration of the smoke, but expertly so as it never once became overwhelmingly spicy, but 'just right'. The pyramid form factor of the Nasty Fritas contributed to its nearly flawless burn line, and also allowed it to billow out smoke relentlessly (Don't have a chimney in your house? Now you do.) All in all, the Liga Privada Unico Serie Nasty Fritas is a superb addition to the highly-respected Unico line from the mighty Drew Estate, and is perfect for when you want a short-ish smoke that doesn't sacrifice one single bit of flavor. Pair it with a quality single malt scotch to amplify the deliciousness even more! Cheers. Picked on 01/06/2019

I'll admit -- I'm a sucker for cigars that look good. When a cigar has that outward appearance that lets you know it was meticulously rolled with utmost attention to detail and extra special care, it grabs my attention and I instantly want to see if the book lives up to the cover. There is something about the simple yet elegant presentation of Warped's La Colmena that made it irresistible to me, and I'm ecstatic to report that it tastes as good as it looks. Rolled exclusively by select Level 9 master rollers at Miami's famed El Titan de Bronze factory, La Colmena exudes craftsmanship found only in cigars made by the best of the best. Between the veinless silky-smooth Ecuadorian DeFlorada wrapper, the classy color scheme of the band against the hue of said wrapper, and the textbook-perfect pigtail cap, I truly almost felt bad setting it ablaze. That said, I also couldn't wait to indulge in what I was sure to be a real treat from the experts at Warped. Upon lighting the flawlessly closed foot, I was greeted with cedary notes of figs and honey, with velvety floral notes appearing as the ash made its way into the second third. By the end of the smoke, the honey notes were still present, along with a pleasant Irish cream flavor that concluded the session magnificently. All in all, the only knock I would have to say about La Colmena is that due to its thin, fragile wrapper, I needed to correct the burn line a couple of times, but that's the small price to pay for the use of such a rare and delicate leaf. Besides that, I found La Colmena to be a super solid, mild to medium-bodied delight, and I encourage anyone who appreciates what a little TLC can do to give this one a try. Picked on 09/06/2018

The Warfighter Tobacco Company is owned and operated by combat veterans who love cigars so much, they decided to make some of their own! Blended in part by active member of the U.S. Army David Blanco (Blanco Cigars) and hailing from the Plasencia factory in Esteli, Nicaragua, this halfway rustic-looking .50 Cal Field Maduro takes no prisoners. Full-bodied and rich, I was instantly greeted with heavy notes of leather, and as the minutes passed, earth and even a hint of oatmeal showed face. The burn was decent; it started off a bit iffy but then corrected itself about an inch or two in. Towards the end, notes of cedar and nuts began to appear, making for a more neutral finish than how it began. The aroma that emitted from this cigar was exceptionally noticeable and pungent; musty, but still interestingly pleasant. I can imagine some folks perhaps finding it a bit intrusive, but that's not necessarily the target audience Warfighter is aiming for. They're looking for those who like it a bit rough. Those who will spit every other minute whilst smoking. Those who will have this cigar hanging from their mouth as they clean their gun. Those who don't mind fighting for what they believe in. And especially those who can do all of the above and still crave an excellent premium cigar. Pick this one up to show some support for those who've risked their lives for their country, and if you happen to be reading this and are active military or a veteran - Thank you, and enjoy. Cheers. Ah, yes. Dark as night, black as coal, the Camacho Triple Maduro is not afraid to intimidate with either its appearance or its name. This is the first cigar to utilize entirely maduro components: filler, binder, and wrapper are all prime San Andres maduro leaf, and the result is truly remarkable. The first thing I will say is, although this cigar is certainly full-bodied, it is NOT as much of a powerhouse as you may assume. There are many other cigars that I've tried, even in recent memory, that make this Camacho seem tame in a strength comparison. I feel the need to make that observation clear, as I wouldn't want anyone to think that the Triple Maduro is somehow too strong to smoke. Upon lighting, smoke billows out incessantly, and the rich flavors of leather and cocoa intertwine to create a lovely bitterness that impressively leads way into a sweeter finish as you approach the second third of the stick. Subtle notes of berry and vanilla show face, and I never once had to relight. Burn was almost perfect, barring some slight unevenness towards the end, but I almost didn't notice as I was too entertained by what is easily one of the whitest ashes I've ever seen. This cigar is a pleasure to smoke, and sadly, I feel as if it is often overlooked by many. If you are a full-bodied smoker, and haven't tried this one yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? I am beyond excited to present to you the Florida Sun Grown (FSG) by Drew Estate! Willy Herrera collaborated with the owner of Corona Cigars to bring this Floridian tobacco onto the palates of smokers looking for something new and exciting. This is the first time in nearly 40 years that Florida tobacco is used in making a cigar, and it definitely deserves your attention; I can't rave about this cigar enough. From the first puff, you are met with a rich toastiness that leads way into some of the most delicious earthy notes I've experienced in recent memory. Notes of wood and the slightest amount of spice were present, and towards the end the cigar brought back that warm toastiness with a vengeance. The burn remained perfect throughout the entire session, and no relights were needed. Interestingly, there is no mention of Drew Estate anywhere on the band, but rest assured - the quality you've come to expect from them over the years remains in tact. Without a doubt, one of my new favorites that I gladly recommend to everyone who comes into the store. Clermont, Florida. Who'd have thought? Picked on 10/21/2017

Do not confuse this cigar with the already existing Camacho American Barrel-Aged blend, as this is the brand new (and in my opinion, improved), NICARAGUAN Barrel-Aged! Instead of Kentucky Bourbon barrels, this tobacco was aged 5 years in Flor de Caña rum barrels, which had previously held rum for 25 years. As a result, there is a very noticeable rum note throughout the entire stick. In true Camacho fashion, you are instantly greeted with a blast of pepper upon the very first puff, and although it does mellow out a bit after a few minutes, the spice never truly goes away completely; blending with the rum notes, this equates to a cigar with a nice, crisp, flavorful and sweet bite. The burn was nice and even throughout, and absolutely no relights were needed. If you're already a fan of My Father cigars, then you know a little bit of what to expect: a perfectly harmonious marriage of spice and cream, with a delectably sharp yet smooth aroma. Right from the start, notes of almond and pepper flooded my palate, while hints of leather and fig swirled around throughout. The solid box-pressed construction offered a strong ash and an even burn. No re-lights needed. I would classify this cigar as medium to full-bodied in strength, however, it is definitely full in flavor. Pair it with some nice scotch! It has been a LONG time since I've smoked a Romeo y Julieta. If you've followed my reviews, you might be able to guess why I decided to light this one up - it's Nicaraguan! My favorite country of origin for tobacco is the highlight here, being that it is the very first RyJ to utilize it to the fullest extent; it features 100% Nicaraguan tobacco AND is rolled there as well. Naturally, I knew at the very least that I would probably LIKE the cigar, but I was surprised at how much I actually did. I happen to love box-pressed cigars, so that was already a point in its favor, but once it was lit and about an inch in, I already knew it would be my next Staff Pick. There was a momentary blast of spice in the very beginning, though that subsided fairly quickly and opened up into a very rich, leathery note that never let up. Earthy notes are also detectable, and hints of cinnamon showed face as well. No relights were needed, the burn was more than fair, and the cigar just looked and felt well constructed. I encourage you to try this one, especially if RyJ had perhaps gotten a bit lackluster as it had for me in recent times. Cheers! Picked on 02/23/2017

I enjoy boutique brands as much as the next smoker, but I also like to indulge in the 'big' names as well, seeing as how they got to where they are for a reason! One of the world's most recognized names in cigars, Montecristo sells itself. This Artisan Series Toro is a special one, however, and in more ways than just availability; each one has had its contents hand-picked by 3 members of the Grupo de Maestros (http://www.cigarmaestro.com/the-maestros) and then finally rolled by just one specifically chosen master roller. The result is a cigar with impeccable construction, and a whole lot of TLC. Like many Montecristo's, notes of almond and leather intertwine throughout the smoke, with a consistent hint of wood in the background. The strength lies in-between medium and full, but yet is so smooth you'll be asking yourself if it's part of the White series! Seriously, lots of taste, but no harshness or overbearing power. Whenever I'm asked at the store if we carry Cohiba, 9 out of 10 times the person is referring to the Cuban variant. In fact, many people are unaware that Cohiba has Dominican and Nicaraguan offerings that easily hold their own in the cigar world. I gravitated towards the Nica blend for this review, as that is my personal country of choice for the majority of the tobacco I smoke. This cigar wields a large black and gold band, with the famous "red dot" sticking out nicely. Upon lighting, there was a short and mostly subtle pepper blast, which then led way to a leathery note that lasts throughout most of the duration. Notes of oak and even a little bit of berry appear from time to time, and always at just the right moment, keeping the cigar from becoming one-dimensional yet not overly 'busy'. Solid construction gives forth an even burn, and no relights were needed. Next time you think about the Cohiba brand, remember that they are more than just Cuban! Picked on 10/26/2016

It's time to shed some much needed light on one of my favorite brands that unfortunately gets overlooked often: Kristoff. While I do my best to get them into as many hands (mouths?) as possible, it's not common to hear a stranger say they're avid Kristoff smokers, while many more still have never even tried ANY before. This confuses me, because I happen to think everything the brand makes is beyond solid, particularly the Kristoff GC. I gladly include this cigar in my top 5 favorite stogies of all-time. Due to its blend, this stick is quite the mutt: Brazilian maduro wrapper. Honduran binder. Dominican, Honduran, AND Nicaraguan tobacco. And finally, this concoction is rolled in the DR. Because of all this, the cigar provides one complex experience. Notes of cocoa, espresso, and molasses swirl around as you smoke, and the draw has always proved superb. Be aware, it is definitely a full-bodied stick, so maybe save it for after a nice meal, paired with some scotch of choice. Enjoy. Bonus: the cap is rolled into a pigtail, so no cutter required! If you've ever spoken to me personally about cigars, there is a very high chance you already know that the Padron Anniversary series (in maduro, of course) is my all-time favorite cigar. And it is for that very reason that I am here today to giddily talk about the latest Padron to hit our shelves, the TAA Toro. At first glance, it looks like any other 1964 Padron, however, this TAA edition is an exclusive size available only to merchants who are members of the Tobacconists' Association of America. (For more info on the TAA, please visit thetaa.org) Coming in at a stout 5x54, this is the perfect size for someone who likes a shorter cigar, but still likes a decent amount of tobacco. Upon lighting, I noticed that there is a noticeable pepper blast that isn't nearly as prominent in the standard Padron 64s I always smoke. Along with that, I definitely detected a fuller-body experience start to finish. I would place the strength more in tune with the 1926 line. Whether this is attributed to the size of this stick, or perhaps maybe a modified blend, I'm not sure, but what I do know is that it is absolutely delicious. As per usual, you can expect rich, bold, maduro flavor, with hints of leather and nutmeg. Easy draw, perfect appearance, and consistency. Love it. This is a beautiful box-pressed torpedo with a simple yet attractive cream colored band and a smooth, dark wrapper. Notes of wood and subtle pepper were apparent immediately after lighting, and remained fairly consistent throughout the duration. The draw was perfect, and I never found myself needing to relight. Overall, a very solid smoke for when you want quality Nicaraguan tobacco at a generous price. Picked on 10/03/2015

At first glance, one can tell that this is going to be an exquisite cigar. With bright orange banding, including a cloth footer, this stogie isn't afraid to make a statement prior to even being lit! Fortunately, the smoking experience does not disappoint; the smoker is greeted with an ever-so-slight burst of pepper immediately after lighting, followed by a nice blend of almond and wood notes that last virtually for the entire remainder. What makes this box-pressed beauty special, however, is the constant citrus undertone detectable throughout. It is never intrusive, but excellently balanced and present just enough to let this cigar live up to its namesake. Highly recommended. Picked on 09/22/2015

Being a huge Padron fan, I was very excited to try out their newest offering, the Damaso Connecticut. Normally I lean towards stronger cigars, but there was no way I was going to pass up the latest from my favorite brand. I am glad to say that although it is mild-medium in strength, it has a ton of flavor for a Connecticut leaf, and still retains that signature Padron texture. Strong notes of cedar took over immediately after lighting, and as the cigar progressed, I could sense leather and nutmeg seep in. All in all, the Padron Damaso has easily made its way to the top of my list for when I'm looking for something on the lighter side. Enjoy with coffee. Picked on 08/22/2015

This, of course, is the recently popular Oliva V Melanio blend, whose Figurado size won the top spot in Cigar Aficionado's esteemed Top 25 list for 2014. I've had the pleasure of smoking this cigar a couple of times in the past, and decided to refresh my memory with this robusto. Within seconds of lighting, I was instantly reminded of what I was in for: a strong, but not TOO strong, spicy, but not TOO spicy, overall fantastic smoke. Notes of wood and pepper flood the senses right away, with notes of nutmeg seeping in throughout. The ash was solid and strong, without falling until forced to. Draw was beyond superb. I'm glad the Melanio was given the honor of #1 cigar of the year, as it is a blend very well deserving of recognition. Enjoy with either a coffee or a nice scotch. Picked on 07/21/2015

I was very surprised when I saw the price tag on this stick, as normally the boutique brand Illusione comes standard with boutique pricing... alas, this was not the case whatsoever. I couldn't resist giving it a smoke, and ended up enjoying a very smooth, perfectly balanced cigar. Notes of wood and leather floated around from start to finish, but never completely overtook the experience. There is some definite spice as well, but again, nothing too intense. Its small size lends itself to being a recurring choice for me when I'm looking for a tasty, quick smoke. You MUST try this Illusione - I feel like they will likely raise the MSRP upon realizing the quality of it! Picked on 05/11/2015

It's no secret that I usually enjoy smoking dark, full-bodied cigars. Thus, I figured it's time to switch things up a bit and aim for the opposite end of the spectrum. Having been a little while since I've smoked a really good Connecticut, I lit up a Griffin's Tubo Robusto, hoping for a high quality experience. I'm proud to say that it delivered in spades. Featuring a smooth, buttery wrapper, the initial light was rich in almond notes which ended up lasting throughout the entire session. Subtle notes of wood also appeared after about a quarter of the way in. Another thing worth praising is the construction of this cigar - it's pretty perfect. Nice, even burn from start to finish, no relights necessary, and a strong ash anyone would be proud of. Overall, this departure from my norm was extremely satisfying, and I can confidently recommend this stick to anyone looking for a mild smoke that doesn't skimp on taste. Picked on 04/25/2015

After a lot of anticipation (and industry hype), I finally had the chance to sample the brand new successor to the beloved Flor De Las Antillas, My Father's La Antiguedad. As I have already begun to describe to my customers, this cigar is, essentially, the maduro version of 2012's Cigar of the Year. If you were a fan of the original Flor De Las Antillas, La Antiguedad provides a lot of similar characteristics, with some added spice and body. The first half of the cigar features plenty of wooden notes mixed with an almost berry-like flavor lurking underneath, while the second half cools down and becomes nutty and slightly leathery. No matter what section of the cigar I was on, the taste was rich and delicious. No burn issues, no draw issues. At a very friendly price-point, I can assertively say that this stick is a home run in all aspects, and comes highly, highly recommended. Enjoy. Picked on 03/03/2015

The Epic Maduro robusto has a combination of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobacco, and combined with the Brazilian wrapper it provides a rich, bold taste that will satisfy even the most particular of maduro smokers. Judging a book by its cover, I had high expectations for this cigar. It comes packaged in an elegant, luxurious leather box lined with purple felt, and boasts the famous Roman general on the band. I'm happy to say that it met and exceeded my expectations! Right from the start, I was overwhelmed with nice notes of wood and a mellow spice. Towards the beginning it burned a bit unevenly, but it quickly corrected itself and then remained consistent throughout. As I got to the midway point, the flavors introduced upon lighting suddenly became super rich and I detected a subtle taste of leather creep its way in as well. I have to say that I was very impressed with everything about this cigar, and can see why it's a bit on the pricier side: much like its box, it is PREMIUM in every sense of the word. This one was interesting. Due to its blend and presentation, I had been curious about trying this cigar for quite some time, and finally had the opportunity to do so. Admittedly, it was not exactly what I had expected. Although the cigar is infused with cognac, it is very subtle, and quite frankly you smell it more than you taste it. This may or may not be a good thing depending on who you are, but I personally would have preferred a more prominent flavor considering that is this sticks main selling point. Upon lighting, the distinct aroma definitely filled the air, but, to my dismay, the draw on mine left much to be desired. I found the cigar to be between mild and medium bodied, with a slightly sweet tinge to it. Overall, I would recommend this cigar to someone looking for a long lasting, soft smoke with a pleasant aroma and equally pleasant texture. Also makes a great gift due to its beautiful presentation inside a glass tube topped with wax. Picked on 12/29/2014

Kristoff has always impressed me with their cigar blends, and this Maduro is no exception. The cap twists into a small pigtail, and the foot is left uncut, so the cigar isn't trying to look clean at all, yet it delivers some of the smoothest flavors of any maduro cigar I've had under 10 dollars. Hints of molasses, chocolate, and almond smother the tongue, and while it has plenty of flavor, it doesn't overpower in the strength department. If you're looking for a rich, meaty smoke, look no further than this stick. Picked on 12/13/2014

Anyone would be enticed by this beautiful cigar simply from its appearance, sporting a unique pyramid-cone shape with a black band on the foot. Upon lighting, I was greeted immediately with notes of oak and leather, and the draw on mine was superb. The ash left a little to be desired, as it began to flake and crumble only about an inch in. Nevertheless, the cigar never went out on me once, and it retained delicious wooden notes throughout the entire duration. I was very impressed overall, and recommend this cigar to anyone looking for a short, high-quality smoke. 8.5/10 Picked on 11/20/2014

As far as appearances go, the Padron Anniversary line has always been easy on the eyes with a dark, toothy wrapper and box pressed construction. It is a medium-bodied smoke with notes of leather and roasted nut, and provides just enough spice without being considered 'spicy'. Extremely well-balanced, this is one of my absolute favorites, and would gladly smoke one at any opportunity. Picked on 11/11/2014
