In 2003, La Aurora celebrated the milestone of 100 years of their factory with the award-winning La Aurora 100 Años. La Aurora 100 Años is a cigar made of 100% Dominican tobacco which earned a 93 rating and the #2 spot in 2004 Top 25 Cigars of the Year by Cigar Aficionado magazine. A silky Dominican Corojo wrapper that has been aged for 4 years is used in the making of this super premium. The production of 100 Años is limited, with each cigar numbered individually. It is said about this cigar that it is the best in the La Aurora portfolio of brands.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
The Dominican Republic is the world's first producer of cigars. Most factories are located in Santiago, in the center of the island, and in close proximity to the tobacco fields grown in the fertile Cibao Valley. While tobacco and cigars have always traditionally been produced in the Dominican Republic, many Cuban cigar makers established in the Dominican Republic after the Cuban communist revolution, elevating the quality of Dominican cigars.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Corojo wrapper was first developed in Cuba in the 1930s and quickly became popular as the wrapper on some of the best cigars. By the end of the 90s, Cuba stopped growing Corojo wrapper because of its susceptibility to pests and diseases. Ironically, Corojo wrapper has since become more popular outside of Cuba, as it has been replicated in tobacco farms in Nicaragua, Honduras, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic.

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
The main tobacco region in the Dominican Republic is the Cibao valley in the northern part of the island. In the 60s, Cuban seeds were brought here by exiled Cuban cigar makers and found that they grew exceptional cigar tobacco, called Piloto Cubano. The native Dominican tobacco, called Olor, is milder than Piloto Cubano yet more aromatic. The first company to grow Dominican tobacco for cigar wrapper was Tabacalera Arturo Fuente in 1995.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Dominican Republic is a traditional tobacco-growing country. In the 60's, a Cuban seed was introduced and the resulting tobacco, called Piloto Cubano, became famous as a good substitute of the Cuban tobacco that was no longer allowed to enter the USA. Piloto Cubano is full bodied while the Dominican Olor tobacco is milder but more aromatic.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.
Filler (or “tripa” in Spanish) is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar. The Dominican Republic is considered one of the most premier tobacco growing countries in the world. The filler tobacco grown in this Caribbean island nation ranges from mild to full bodied. Olor Dominicano and Piloto Cubano are the main types of tobacco grown in the Dominican Republic.

Thomas Wellman What is your recommendation for a substitute for Anos 100 Robusto? La Aurora or any brand. This has been my favorite cigar.

NeptuneCigar.com From the same maker, I recommend the Fernando Leon Family Reserve. For an alternative selection, I recommend the Aging Room Core Habano.

Some of the worst cigars that I have ever smoked!! I bought 10 singles, paid $16.00 a piece. They were ALL HOLLOW/UNDERFILLED, UN-SMOKABLE. If I could get one lit, it wouldn't stay lit. How was the taste? Terrible, HARSH AND BITTER! I am ticked off! Jerry Perkins, Minnesota.

La Aurora is the oldest of the Dominican cigar companies, operating the oldest continually run cigar factory in the Dominican Republic. They’ve learned a few things along the way, and all of that knowledge went into producing a cigar worthy of 100 years in the cigar business. One of my all-time favorites from La Aurora has to be the 100 Anos Maduro Robusto. At first glance, the dark maduro wrapper leads you to believe it will be a potent smoke, but it actually lies somewhere between the medium to full-bodied spectrum. The creaminess of the draw sweetened on each puff, while the retrohale became much smoother and had a notable sting of cedar. The sweetness is also met with a nutty flavor of sorts. The burn was perfect, and the draw was effortless. Overall, a must-try!
