Joya de Nicaragua has a mellow side, and they want you to know it. Joya Red is a Nicaraguan puro that incorporates Viso tobaccos and lower priming Cuban-seed tobacco wrappers from Nicaragua. Thus, Joya Red creates a medium bodied experience with the same characteristic flavors and quality that we've grown accustomed to with Joya de Nicaragua. The cigar is nutty and peppery and its packaging has a fresh and modern look.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Colorado is a medium brown color also known as EMS or English Market Selection as this used to be the color with more popularity in England than in America.

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Nicaraguan cigar wrappers are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Wrappers grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro wrappers are all produced in Nicaragua.

Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Tried one of these just to see how it compared to other Joya's, This is obviously their mild blend, not much flavor at the start but it does build as it go's, it builds nice cream slightly sweet nutty with some nice mild leather. Acutely the last third was the best, stayed cool to the end. I liked it but for mild cigars I prefer the Gilberto Oliva Blanc!!

This is going to be a must keep in my box, at the pre light is smells of honey and raisins, draw was good, taste was even better. I don't know if the cold weather that we had today in Nor Cal (Rain, Hail, 45degrees.) had anything to do with the way it burned but I had to re light it twice and touch it up twice, which wasn't a big deal. All in all this was a pleasurable smoke. Can't wait till it warms up to spark one in warmer weather. -El Catrin

A great looking cigar. I didn't care for the taste as it seemed unbalanced. On more than one occasion, I've been smoking one of these and a co worker told me it smelled like Maui wowee. Perfect burn and draw with tons of smoke, ash lasted halfway through. Sort of a creamy-spicy taste with a retrohale that wont set your nose on fire. If the Antano is a 10 on flavor intensity and strength, this one is more of a 6. More tame and subtle but still very enjoyable flavors.

I discovered this cigar when Cigar Aficionado listed it in their "25 Best Buys of 2015" list and was happy to see it return in the 2016 list, too. A really nice, smooth smoke with easy, cool draw and a subtle sweetness that peaks in the middle third. I find it to be on the mild side of medium. A really wonderful smoke!

I was happy to see a more mellow smoke from joya! This medium body cigar is very flavorful yet very smooth and mellow. The flavor started right from light up and continued all the way through -- even though the flavor didn't change much. A slight peppery beginning which turned into a smoother sweeter smoke. Even though this cigar is not very complex it was a very enjoyable smoke!!
